The alternator largely powers spark/lights/ecu/things that don't exist on track cars. There should be a protection circuit in the battery that limits the current to 10A.

There is control logic in every LiFePO cell.
The charge limit would mean no alt belt squeal after startup (when a Lead battery takes all it can get).

Having a min weight to meet, I prefer as heavy battery as possible .
Or stock with 20lb xtra lead in the bottom of the tray.

I made a quick battery tray out of scrap. This is temporary but it only adds 100 grams.

It would be really easy to make a silicone mold of the area where the battery fits and then do a composite tray off of that. Some day.

I've reached the same point. I bought my ballistic 12-cell last year while I was gutting and caging the car and trying to drop weight. I didn't have time to install the battery before my first event, where I found out that all my weight reduction efforts were too successful and I was almost 100 pounds underweight. I'm about to just put the ballistic in my DD so that it doesn't go to waste.

Miata Challenge super mod weight restriction is 2000 lbs with driver. I have a ways to go..

Now branching into other TT's, all of which are unrestricted weight, and in the process I'll almost certainly bump to Unlimited in Miata Challenge, where it is also unrestricted

Agreed that if you need weight, the back right corner is a decent place to have it though.

Really? I thought consensus opinion was that all optional weight should be placed low and within the wheelbase to minimize polar moment. Only drag cars weight up rr corner.

When mine were a bit heavier 20lb lead in the battery tray I got 50/50 F/R and L/R, not only a 50.0 cross.
The benefits of 50/50 (mass balance) can always be argued, but why not .

I think I remember reading somewhere that there was a restriction on the thickness of the footing places for a cage in spec miata because some guys where using 1" thick steel plates in the right trunk footing in order to get better balance.

You just need to sneak some tungsten into your cage tubes. Good luck protesting that.

.

Looks like summit sells some universal 1157 bulb holders for fairly cheap too. Could probably mount these on a peice of aluminum next to the headlight.

I have those as fogs. The light output is disappointing. I'm gonna try and retrofit projectors into clear turn signal housings one of these days.

Do you have the fog version or the driving version? I think there is more than one. I stumbled onto these looking at 93-97 Camaro headlight retrofits and it seems these are supposed to perform better than factory sealed beam headlights, at least on those cars.

I also found these at a considerably higher price point, but I would like to find out more about them. Sounds like it's an HID projector in a Delrin housing.

Sorry I can't hyperlink it, I'm on my phone....

The driving version. I would go with those other ones. Those look sweet. I'm gonna look into those.

Yeah I emailed them earlier to see if they offer any kind of universal kits. Hopefully cheaper than the plug and play version.

Might be cheaper to do your own retrofit.

Output cant be worse than stock na headlights... Again back on track. This is a track car thread and light output is not crucial it just needs to be legal and put some light on the road for my way to and from the track at night. If i wanted high light output on a track car it would be a light bar.

Totally forgot where we were. Those hella driving lights would be fine for occasional driving.

Something like
this this
might fit too.
