I posted my temp booth in here before I think... nyways it was 16x28 I think. good room to do the car, was made of poly and 2x4's. cost was around $120 for everything.
if you have a booth offered, use that, do the whole car at once with one mix of paint. even the same paint batch mixed on different days (reducer, hardener) will look different on the panel. mix 1/2 gallon or whatever you think you need to do the whole car and go to it.
paint the color in light coats so you don't get a run (pretty hard to get with base only) then smash the clear on while trying to keep runs down (pretty easy to get runs in clear) don't wait overnight to clear-it makes way more work, just follow the manufacturers spec sheet and you never need to sand between layers.
You would have a real hard time in a shipping container to have even enough space to paint one bumper at a time.

It is looking like circumstance is forcing my hand in another direction. I sold a job that will keep me busy for several weeks, preventing me from doing as much hands on work on the car. As much as I would like to say I painted the car myself, it is looking less like that is going to happen.
In other news, I got my hood back. Not so sure having it welded was such a good idea. I knew the welding would warp some metal, but damn, it is pretty rough. I have hammered on it some, and is better, but there is a long way to go. I may chalk this one up as another painful learning experience.

That is a good possibility.
I am going to hammer away at it for a few hours to see if it is a lost cause or not. I have so much time and money in this that I feel I have to take a stab at it. I will know more by sometime Sunday.

I was supposed to take a day off and go to the Spring Break shoot out all day, but once I got there I realized how much it sucks to be a spectator. I went back to the shop and spent some more time on the hood.
After some heavy blows with a rubber mallet, I think it is going to work out just fine. I spent a fair amount of time working the fenders, nose cone, and lights to see how much shaping I need to do to the hood. The rest of the afternoon was spent swinging the hammer.
I am to the point now that I need two helpers to support the hood while I continue to hammer away at it. If I can't find anyone for tomorrow, I will have to wait till my crew comes to work next week.
I will take some pictures when it is not so God awful.

It might not look like much in the pic, but I am very close to having a perfectly straight and lightweight hood. I shot it with primer to see how far I am off, and as you can see there is a little more work to do. In person it looks pretty straight. The exposed metal or filler you see is just my attempt to reach as low in the valleys as I could before taking the next step to fix the imperfections.
I still need to do some work on the bottom side of the hood to fix some of the scabby work left by the welder. Of coarse, it is taking much longer than I thought to get it to my liking.
I primered it this afternoon, and instead of waiting till tomorrow, I had to go back to the shop tonight and sand on it. I just got home five minutes ago.

In other news, I am helping a friend build a 94 Camaro into a future drag strip toy. The previous owner said that the motor was a little gummed up. We pulled the V6 out and discovered
He was hoping he could limp the V6 along while he hunted for the parts he needs. Not looking so good.

Patience. A little more work yet.
It is pretty hard to put enough on the first time. I puddy, sand, puddy, sand, paint, sand, sometimes puddy again, sand, paint, sand; and then it is ready to go....Maybe. Of coarse, I am no pro.

Eww. If your painting in segment would it be that terrible to mix all the paint at once and separate it into smaller cans to store for a short bit? I know mixing it at different times is terrible, but wait to put the thinners in until shoot day and have the same mix each time. Seriously if a booth is offered to you use it. Halfassing it might bring the Jeffbucc hammer of smite and perfection.

My bark is worse than my bite, I'm just too lazy to follow through!
Honestly though? Get a digital scale, record the exact weight to the grams of your first batch, repeat ad nauseam. I ain't no pro at this though. That is just how I stupid proof my recipes at my store so any college monkey...student*cough* can repeat the recipe.
