I think I need to just put Hornet on as a retainer before I make decisions on my car...bastard knows too much.

Redoing my COP harness tonight. Crimps, no solder! 2 new igniters, auto grade 18 gauge wiring, new COP connectors...hopefully I can do it better than when I was learning how to wire a year ago.

Somebody 'splain to me why no solder.

 

That'd be an expensive purchase; ****'s over $60 a roll. Luckily, I found some more, but they're partial rolls.

I just don't like it because it is messy, creates an area of weakness, and if I can do something to eliminate failure points, that is a win, correct? Plus, when I was learning to solder, I wasn't very good at it, so it was a terrible job overall. Had some trouble with COP #1 signal being lost at times, so I figured it was a good time to fix it while I have the time.

Also, I've been led to believe that crimping is a better option, if you are able to, than soldering. Looking at the Miata harness. There are not many spots that solder is used.

This is all conjecture though. so if you feel I am wrong, and I most likely am, don't go all internet warrior on me.

 

Well, I believe factory harnesses are crimped simply because of ease of manufacturing. Cold solder joints would be a problem if everything was hand soldered. But I would think that adding solder would be good if it was done by someone that took their time and did it right. Crimp, then solder. Sort of a belt and suspenders approach. Then again, maybe it's just unnecessary overkill.

I absolutely hate wiring, and do as little of it as possible these days.
