Been doing a lot of t5 musing lately. I have settled on a 99-04 mustang trans.
Its basically the same gear set as the popular 90-93 t5, but with the longer input shaft. The gears are stronger too, 300ft/lb rating, over 265ft/lb for the 94-98 t5s.
They are also way cheaper than any other option I've found. I have a line on a couple for under $300. But will keep looking for cheaper.
I also found a totaled 02 for like $500. I might go pick that up and sell the rest of the car and keep the trans.

Went to look at the stang. Jacked it up. Trans was toast. Bellhousing was cracked, 2 of the mounting ears on the case were ripped off, big crack in the tailhousing. Sucks, because he had an invoice from june, $1500 spent on the rebuild.
So no go on that. Talked to the guy for a bit, said the junkyard down the road had a few transmissions laying around. Talked em down on this one. 110k, out of an 02. Shifts into all gears just fine.

I paid $300 for this. They are probably cheaper other places, but it was a good deal, and had already pulled the cash out to buy that mustang. More of an impulse buy than I wanted, but still half the price of a 6 speed.
If I owned my house I would have snagged the mustang for half price, and welded up the trans. But I can't leave more than 2 crashed cars at my place at once. Hailey's rules

You sir need to spend more time searching for 6 speeds. The 2 I have bought outright have been $400 and $450 a piece. They bolt right in and I have yet to destroy one. :P
I also don't have any plans on tracking my car in the range that 6 speeds die on track. Mostly because other consumables get to expensive then.

I'm going to try this t5 thing out. They sell quickly on craigslist around here, so I'm not into it much.
At the end of the day I should be into it for a chunk of aluminum, a couple clutch discs, and a new input shaft.

Pretty good actually. I'm under my budget by 6 cents right now.
Have gotten quite a few good deals from friends. Things are going better than expected

Track day on thursday. Fitment in the trailer is on point. Everything just fits. All I put in the car is my helmet and chair.
