Why do the back row look shorter? Is it just an illusion?

Gotcha. Supposedly these are singles.

Got them for a deal, will not be going to doubles.

Doubles are literally two valve springs per valve, so yeah you got singles in the pic.

Same, didnt spit a shim. Though pounding at 8500 rpm seems to wear out the intake valves/seats. Another car I know that revs high managed to crack a factory lifter through, throw the ship, score the lifter bore in the head and the cam, but thats with stock valve springs. If you want to do this your cheap *** way, get supertech valves with the extra long stems and hand grind them to the correct length to use the toyota shimmless lifters. You cant spit a shim thats not there.

I have thought about that. But not doing to do valves right now.

I'll probably just run as is.

Unless I need like new shims for every single valve. and it ends up cheaper than buying a pile of mazda shims lolol.

I think I posted the spreadsheet in my build thread that automatically calculates the optimal shim based on your clearance and current shim to help you mix and match shims to save money.

You won't need 16 shims, probably you'll only need 4 or 5. Plus you have a second head available that you're going to build, right? You can always steal shims out of that one too.

Supertech valve seals ordered.

I'll probably pick a vvt head and start stripping it down. Send it out to get hot tanked, surfaced, and checked. Then install this valve train in there.

Have you gotten a quote for your machine work yet Aidan? I just had a bunch of **** done, and I'm curious how well I came out.
I should start a thread about typical machinist costs.

SUBs have less mass than SOBs, which should reduce hp losses and wear. Protection from valve float is an additional benefit. I don't have them but I have had trouble finding 6th on the track and ending up with 4th while upshifting from 5th. **** spins fast, lol. Thankfully I didn't let the clutch all the way out, or don't think I did anyway. I'm using doubles and hyd lifters.
