But you dodged a BIG bullet with the churbo btw. The CXracing churbos were CRAP - crappy enough that I just threw it to the scrapper over offering a ~3k mile turbo on here for $cost of shipping.

To sum up what I've been getting PMs about:

Non-standard size, non-standard bolt holes, non-standard EVERYTHING.

Anything about it is one off, and it sucks horribly as a trubo since it's smaller than a 2560 size-wise but spools slower than a GT35R or something equally ridiculously large on a Miata.

Oh, and it has several cheap chinese bolts/studs broken off in it, which are going to run some $StupidCost to have machined out (See: Curly's dilemma about busted bolts/studs with his T25)

 

I was just going to say that the wastegate didn't look like it was gonna work once clocked, but apparently it does.

Yep, works perfect. Best fitting wastegate I've had yet - the wastegate mount attaches to any 2 of the six bolts on the rear of the compressor housing..

I got an offer/ended up selling my previous turbo setup for more than the previous turbo setup cost plus alterations I had to make for the new turbo setup, and I HAD to make a choice right then and there with what I had on hand. I said eff it, and went with the churbo because in the end, it contributed some cash towards this new turbo even throwing the churbo away completely (Read: Free churbo plus some cash towards this turbo setup!)

This was back when I converted from my 1.6 to my 1.8 engine as well, please remember. I also changed full turbo setups, engines, etc.

I'm very interested in the results of this thing I can't wait to see how it does. Although soviets dyno is amazing I'm still on the fence about what turbo I want now that I have a built motor.

Scratching my head on this. It builds boost so goddamn fast it overshoots the target boost, and hits overboost control basically as fast as I can hit the gas pedal.

How does one properly adjust an adjustable wastegate?

 

what's controlling boost? just the wastegate actuator? EBC? MBC?

 

Wastegate actuator is it right now - no MBC, no EBC.

 

Wastegate diaphragm holds pressure? Signal source?

 

Yeah, and signal source comes from the stock location on the turbo.

Everything's stock - I'm just trying to figure out The Right Way to adjust the wastegate.

 

what is the wg can base pressure, and how much preload you got on that sucker?

 

I'm not certain - but when I couldn't build boost very well (Read: Wasn't tightened down. At all.), it held around 9psi of boost stable once the turbo had finally spooled up. The turbo I got comes with base pressure wastegates between 6-12 psi, sadly my reseller didn't include that information with the turbo I bought.

I went from no preload to 3.5 turns of preload as per suggestions from the internet. Likely, that's too much preload, but at this point I have no futzing idea.

 

Well, you need to loosen it until you're not over boosting, then snug it up until it just barely isn't cutting out.

Read: Keep loosening it until I reach the boost psi I want? Seemed intuitive, but the source I read was pretty clear about 3-3.5 turns of preload, which made me worry.

 

Just got off the phone with precision.

They include either a 6-8psi actuator and a 10-12psi actuator. Sounds like I got the 10-12.

There should be no charge to swap that out, right?
