Just my 2 cents please flame away.
I've chunked 5 T56's in the last decade...... They aren't that strong out of the box.

I guess the moral to any car story is you have to pay to play and no stock trans is built to be bullet proof.

The moral of this story is that its easy as ---- to post on the internet and its also easy as ---- to make any job or task sound easy.

Following through and actually doing it is the hard part.
I agree with Tim 100%
Based on fairyflowers track record with his car the last thing we want to do is tell him to undertake a very involving custom fabrication/retrofit project which will render his car undriveable, and un-dyno'd for another 3 years.

He should take his old broke 6speed and send it to quaife and have them build it for him. Then put in a spare 6speed to go dyno for us.

He is going to dyno it for us on the busted 6-speed, then put in another 6-speed and be a little nicer to it.

Not really, it's Fae. He'll never dyno it, he will probably schedule a dyno day and then the day before he will start an AWD swap.

I'll loan you my '99 ECU if it helps. Doubt it. But the offer is there as long as I get it back without abuse. Or register it out here and tell smog to F their A.

EDIT: I know he has the VVT stuff, just offering if someone nkew a way to get an OBD code out of it.

Emissions is solved.

Ordering trans tomorrow. I hope it's not a mistake. I will then have spent $1400 in six speeds.

I miss driving my car.

Have you seen the size of the 6 speed repair manual. It is well over 100 pages. But if you want to attempt to fix it, I wish you good luck.

That is no big deal every transmission I have done with comes down to one thing. Patience if you take your time and go step by step everything seems to work out well. I have only rushed one and forgot the reverse detent witch really sucked.lol Still think it would be awesome to disassemble repair and reassemble.

Mike at ISC Racing has rebuilt the 6-speeds but doesn't like them much. He says the guts are internally the same as the ones in the RX-8 and certain pieces in those were getting trashed left and right by the racing RX-8s. He had several upgraded parts machined for the six speeds and still has the extra pieces to do it. But his advice was get the Quafe gearset for a five speed and be done with it.

Racing RX-8s run a hell of a lot more power than most of us run in a Miata though, Six. The stock RX-8 six port runs more power than half or more of the turbo'd members here have even, (edit) IIRC 240hp.

Depending on what RX8 and series he's talking about, I'd say it's pretty likely we're talking in the 300+ or even 400+ rwhp range - the same range us Miata guys also have been known to have problems with.
