I remember Brian Meyers hitting 2nd gear with his built T5 while the car was still nose up in his Renegade car. If it can hold for a pass or two in that car (about all the longer those would hold in that car), you should have zero issues. Best of all, any redneck can rebuild it. In school, my best time was 25 minutes to strip it to nothing and have it reassembled and shifting perfectly.

+1 on the T5 swap. I could help you with the adapter or you can call BEGI who made their own bellhousing. If you go the BEGI route you should be able to use most of your fancy clutch, you may just have to get discs with a different spline 
Unless the Rx7 uses the same spline, driveshaft, shifter location, PPF stuffs as the miata (and is strong enough).
