So you say you can throw 280 up but can't stuff a little 75 pounds trans in the car without a jack? The hardest part is putting the trans on your chest while under the car on your back.

 

So what do you do?

Push it up and then hold it with one hand and bolt with the other?

 

Once you get it set in the dowel pins, you only need one hand on it to make sure it doesn't crush you. If its not in the splines and dowel pins, you shouldn't have bolts anywhere near it. If you try that, you'll end up with a spline free clutch disc.

I normally have my head towards the engine, feet towards the axle. Find the nice balance point and lift. This lets you shimmy it around as needed.

Since you are a nice guy, I'll give you a bonus tip- Put the car in gear and put the driveshaft in. if your by yourself, you can kind of turn the driveshaft back and fourth a bit to help slide the trans in. If someones around, have them rotate it back and fourth while you man the trans into its prospective slot.

A little more clear now? If not I'll try again when I wake up.

 

If I'm by myself, I will lower the lift down far enough that I can lay on my back and use my knees and hands to push the trans around. I've also found that grabbing the tailshaft housing and making it do little orbits about the axis of the drive shaft, it will walk the splines on the disc until the fall in.

After 6 hours the old broke transmission is still in the car.

The input shaft or somethung seems to be stuck in the clutch.

Lars says this should slide out nice and easy buy it has not

I now have about an inch gap but i had to create that by massive prying.

Removal procedure should just be unbolt bellhousing starter and clutch. Right???

You do not remove that. You did remove the slave right?

 

Yes slave is off. Maybe the uh throwout bearing or whatever that metal donut thing is that attaches to the shifter fork has fuked itself onto the shaft?

i think i must just need a bigger pry bar.

But it was stuck going in for the last inch cus it was hiting a plug on the coolant reroute.

Now it is just stuck on the way out. It is actually past the coolant bung

I really want to spray some kroil into the bellhousing. If i do this, i can clean off the clutch with brake cleaner right?
