Thanks guys. I just ordered this setup last night:

Gonna keep the 2860 and let it breathe.

More updates this weekend hopefully!

Yeah, sure is. Should arrive before the new year. It's replacing my begi manifold, 2.5" non divorced mild steel downpipe, and 2.5" ebay exhaust. I didn't want to run the 2860 on those choked up hot parts.

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the kraken kit once you have hands on it and when you get it running!

Kraken setup is en route, hopefully will have some nice pics of that next week.

In the meantime here are the parts I've been collecting for my rods only rebuild. Didn't take any pics of the block but the cylinder walls look great and so does the head. Not going to tear it down until I'm ready to re-assemble it.

Tools:
320 grit silicon carbite flex-hone
Piston ring filer
Piston ring pliers
Weisco 83mm tapered piston ring compressor (not pictured)
Green plastigage (0.001-0.003 in.)

Parts:
KING STD main, rod, and thrust bearings.
NPR piston rings
M-tuned rods

Some main/rod bearing clearance data I've been collecting:

Robello Racing
Main .0020-.0022
Rod .0018-.0020

FSM
Main .0008-0014 .0040 max
Rod .0008-.0027 .0039 max

Soviets Miata
Main .0020
Rod .0018

MatthewsDesigns:
.0020 Main and Rod

Just posting this data up in case others are thinking about the same thing. I still need to research piston ring specs, but will probably just gap them to the loose end of OEM spec.

Am I missing anything? This is just for the bottom end. I'll attack the head after.

Kraken T25 full 3" exhaust with vbands came in. The parts look really nice. Should go nicely with the 2860rs

Is the downpipe 3"? It looks like it steps up form a smaller diameter to a larger one after the first bend of the DP.

Interesting. I don't think I've seen thermal expansion relief cuts on a miata flange that extreme before.

I believe this is correct. Either way I'm stoked, as it's way HUGE in comparison to my old 2.5" non bellmouth BEGI pipe. Not to mention the exhaust compared to my old one. The welds look awesome. I hope it all fits!

Wow, thanks man! I feel like some of this thread has drug on for a bit too long. Trying to only update it with content now, so the updates will definitely be more sparing. I know what to do and I have the parts. Time will be plenty in the spring, so expect updates then.

My old BEGI had the expansion cuts, but I see what you mean. This thing is a TANK so I'd be surprised if i have any trouble with it. The seller is a good dude as well, so I have confidence in his parts.

Also, I'm buying a new DD this weekend (it looks like). Hint: It's a 1988 and one of 1,243 sold in the US. I'll update here with pics if that goes through.

Good lord, what have I gotten myself into this time..

Runs, drives, and shifts fantastic. Pulls pretty good and handles dirt roads (which are involved in my daily commute) awesomely. Now as long as i can keep it on the road for a few years I'll be extremely happy. Always been a dream car of mine!

True enough. The trans works great for now and I'm going to be careful with it. The miata is the racecar anyways, so as long as it holds up for a few years I'll be stoked! I figure i'll drop a GTR (bpt) drivetrain in it when the time comes, as those are substantially stronger (usually don't have issues until close to ~300whp with them). Then i can megasquirt it, then.., then..

Just did the center and rear diff fluids on it, brake bleed, and clutch bleed today. Next weekend I'll attack the engine and trans fluids. Then all it needs is suspension. Gonna DD it mostly stock for a while, it's plenty peppy and fun as ****!
