After quite awhile, I have an update. Decided it just wasn't worth it to go with a different transmission so we put in another 6 speed today. This one is from a MSM and it gave me a hell of a time during installation. If it wasn't for Ben (90GTK450 on this forum) I would probably be out in the garage lighting the car on fire. He actually drove over and in a matter of 5 minutes got it lined up and ready to bolt together. I must have spent an hour trying to get that thing lined up before he got there, thanks Ben. This is definitely the last time I will remove the transmission without pulling the engine, it kicked my ***.
On a side note, finally got a tow vehicle. Hopefully I can pick up a trailer this winter and then it will be time to start my real build.

Glad to hear you got the car back up and running....and not lighting it on fire, lol. Having a second pair of hands really makes a night and day difference when doing certain things on the car.
What did you pick up as a tow vehicle? I'm looking to get something new soon. Also, what is the "real build" you mentioned?

So far my intent with this build has been to create a fun street car. Sure I take it to the drag strip or to lapping days, but it's still just a street car. It's fast, comfortable, looks nice and has all the things that I would ever want in a Miata. I'm just bored with it and need a change. I've decided to either make it into a track car or just sell it. Since there's not really a market for what I've built, it's simpler to just make it into a track car. As I progress as a driver the car will be built accordingly. I have some crazy stupid ideas so this might get interesting.
Dear god that is a beautiful car. I think i'm going to go in the garage and do some work now...
Oh and I know exactly how you feel about your car and what to do with it now. But, I just came from the other direction. My car was gutted and setup as a competitive auto cross car and over the past year i've been turning it back into a street car, I just missed driving it every day.
Thats what I love about the Miata is that you can do so much with it. Either make it a street car, track rat, drag car, auto-x, etc...what ever. It can do it all and do it very, very well. I'm sure you'll end up keeping it. Atleast I hope you do, lol.

Wow, really? How hard have you tried to sell it? It's a pretty damn well sorted car, you can do a track car for less money than you could sell this for - don't start with anything pretty. I mean, I've been building a motor, etc, I could have something together for a lot less - things like "I'm never changing the tranny" should read "since this isn't a daily, I put in a sequential".
Just a thought. Heck, if I wasn't in california, I'd be interested myself.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who spent forever under the transmission - mine turned out to be lined up - just needed the bellhousing bolts to pull it on since the input shaft didn't want to slide the rest of the way.
Gorgeous car- and I'm not normally a fan of red cars - that thing looks great.

It's so smooooth and quiet. Was like watching a high performance sports car. Good stuff Jay.

Thanks, I'm just getting back into this so all I've been working on is being smooth and not trying to overdrive the car. It's still sitting on the same suspension that I used for drag racing, the tires are old RS2s and boost is down to around 11#-12#. Regardless of that, the driver needs far more improvement than the car.
Got to go for a ride in a FC RX7 Conference race car and that was just pure fun how fast and tossable it was around the corners. Even seeing how much faster an all motor Miata with a proper suspension and tires was in the corners really surprised me.
