Simple, it's leaking out the back seal. There are rebuild kits out there for the cylinder which are pretty cheap. No more difficult than a clutch master or slave, just a few more parts.

If you use it as is, it's going to continue to leak and get worse. Rebuild or replace while it's out.


Edit: booster itself is probably fine. Scrape, sand and hit it with some paint.

 

Its not a piston seal if I remember correctly so it doesn't affect operation. Other option is buy 949 HOK and be done with it. Orange club ftw. this is brakes nvm.

 

No, it is not the piston seal, that's further in. It is the rear seal, which seals the pushrod only.

 

That's what I mean. Thats why brakes felt fine. Google it a bit. Sometimes it can screw up the inside of the booster.

 

Inside of the booster looks fine, I'll be checking out the rebuild kits for the master. I thought about going wilwood but it's really not necessary.

Finished swapping to the longer front wheel studs, and swapped the front uprights and control arms with the poly bushings. I'm waiting for the Singular brake ducts from TSE so I can install the backing plates, then install the hubs and wheels.

Stuff I hope to finish before goes to paint:

• swap brake lines to ABS setup
• replace leaky rear seal in brake master
• clean and repaint brake booster
• research about and add extra brake line for return conversion
• install aforementioned brake duct backing plates, hubs, and wheels

Goal: have it to paint the weekend after next.

In other news: I got the S2k home.



Paint looks pretty solid, but unfortunately the rear upright is bent (in process with seller to get some kind of compensation for them selling me a bent part). Also, the steering rack has a minor issue...





Sourced a good used one and hope to install it within the next few days.

It also has a bad motor mount, so working on sourcing one of those. After that:

• figure out why seatbelt buckles won't buckle
• swap steering rack
• swap rear upright
• obtain and install passenger airbag
• obtain and replace at least passenger motor mount
• swap tires and sell extra wheels

Goal: have that done by the weekend after next as well. Or sooner, hopefully.

Thanks Vlad and Ben. It sure is pretty. I got the old rack out, will install the new rack on Sunday. Got an AP1 rack, a bit quicker steering ratio.

Anyhow, debating between finishing it Sunday morning and going go-karting. Probably will finish the car.... then go "go-karting" in the S2k afterwards.

I doubt it. The S2k just has a polish that the Miata doesn't have. Different vehicles. But even with a terrible alignment and poorly-bled brakes (body Guy's work, not mine) I fell in love.

Methinks I'm a 2-roadster guy from here on out, but we will see.

 

There is a solidity to an s2k that you won't find in a Miata. Its just a nice place to be. How much did it run you Ed?

 

Nothing wrong with loving that car, it's absolutely drop dead gorgeous, the interior is quality, and feels way more solid than a miata.

Would I take one over a turbo nb? NOPE. Would I enjoy it in addition? Oh my word, yes.

If you really keep both you'll be a happy man.

Best part is that car basically needs nothing to look gorgeous. Maybe a slight drop

I am making slow progress on the Miata. Honestly I'm burned out cuz I'm lame, so I'm just going to send it to paint and finish it when it gets back. Need to buy tie rod ends, put the front wheels on, mount the steering column, and send it to paint.
