And you used those exact ones? I think I'll order 30 of them. What size drill did you use?

I've used these at work.

McMaster-Carr

Stainless because of the stupid crazy environment in the plant. Would do well under a car.

I've used these on 1/4" steel. If you do it right, they'll drive right in.
Then again, i tap holes with a drill gun. Aint nobody got time to do that by hand.

Those exact ones, pulled the part # off my bag of spares.

7/32" bit after drilling a small pilot to center it.

hoo-wee, I think i'll go with the mild steel ones. The stainless ones are neat but rust isn't an issue here so I'll save the dinero.

thanks for the input guys. Props.

I would go stainless - they will rust. No salt here, but lots lots of moisture in normal years. It's a onetime job, do it right with stainless the first time.

Yes! Stainless everything. Even in my garage mild steel anything rusts if you look at it too long.

Yeah, I used the self-tapping ones as well, worked great.

Thought I would mention the ones I linked you to are zinc plated.

I also bought some little plastic caps to keep the crud/moisture/debris out.

WTF McMaster, no shipping charge disclosed?? I kept thinking at any moment they'd tell me how much shipping would be, but nope.

I guess we will find out.

Something else about the rust: the zerks always end up with grease on them on the outside, rust really probably won't be much of an issue. But whatever, it's like $20 more.

Ed. Now that you have the new head what are you gonna do about VVT control with ms2? Finally gonna let me build you an MS3?

Ha. I dunno. I just reached out to Rev to see if my MS2e can control VVT, and if not, what it would need. I'll decide what to do after that.

It does seem your MS3 is working just fine so maybe I will go that route!!

I seriously have no idea how you find the time to do the stuff you do.

Senior year in college. I have like at most 3 hours of class a day. Its Sunday of finals week and I probably should have been studying all day....but I already signed an offer letter so I'm having trouble finding the motivation.

Yep. I mentioned it in the pdx lounge on CR.net but you don't come around there as much. MS2e should need VVTuner to make it work.

MS2e has optional VVT control, hence the 'e'.

But, if it was ordered for a 99-00, as it was sold to Ed, the original owner would of needed plans to install a VVT, or simply pay for an optional extra that he/she wasn't going to use. Should of thought of that when I suggested the VVT swap Ed, so that's my bad. Sorry.

Weird. On the recent megasquirt family thread the ms2e doesn't have VVT control listed. But when I checked the comparison sheet its there as an optional extra. My bad Ed.

No problem guys, I can't blame you for my lack of research

I PM'd Rev asking him what it would take to make this thing control VVT. Depending on his answer I'll sell it and get something else in a few months.

unless its really cheap and easy to convert, I'd get a ms3.
the extra features, while not a necessity, are really cool and helpful IMO
