his 2" piping is probably the 1st restriction on the list.
my reasoning goes like this: soviet made what, 450? on this turbo.
on a stock junkyard head. therefore until you go past that power number, don't touch the head.
K.I.S.S :)

This is exactly how I think. I have yet to spend a penny in head work on any of my builds. I just don't see the amount of money spent bringing any real gain. I throw in new valve seals and make sure its flat, then it goes on the car. I rather turn up ht psi a few pounds and make whatever additional power the head work would do.

psyber_0ptix 10-08-2017 05:14 PM

Cranking up boost is great until those few psi push back and say nope nope nope.

It's been rainy out. Can't do my final pull. I'll have to put Smurfette down for the season if I'm talking end tank rewelding. Some local places don't seem interested in the work so I may just send it out to Bell Intercooler to chop and weld.

I wonder if we're comparing against Soviet's build and his monster timing table, I'd probably have to jump on Mach V's (or maybe Moore Automotive's) DynoJet for glory numbers. Otherwise I'd be fun to pit PTuning vs VladTuning numbers on the DynoDynamics

...

On my car, I've found a direct correlation between how many PSI of boost I'm running, and how expensive the parts I break cost to fix or upgrade.

Uh oh.

We are really close to done. I'd love to see this bad boy on the dyno afterwards :)

Ive still got your top secret coil in my shop. Just in case you were looking for it.

4th gear only for clean pulls without tire spin. It's getting a little intense.

Oof, good thing I have a spare trans, a built head on the way and I can always ask @Shibby for a loaner block.

Oh yea! This'll likely be a winter project.

That taper though! It stabilizes to 27-28ish.

Vlad also noted timing is still relatively conservative. Yikes.

Decided I was tired of having a really crummy reading speedometer. Bought $46 dollars of parts in an effort to get the 6spd/3.63 reading more accurately.

Aktualisirung:

- DynoJet has been booked at Moore Automotive for October 27th. This will allow a week of my return to iron out any action items Vlad deems necessary. I would like to get back on PTuning's Dyno Dynamics, to better understand the changes from fixing the boost leak and having Vlad smooth over things; this will have to be another day.

- For science, I'll send the intercooler back to Bell for inlet/outlet modification when the car is down for the winter season. When touching back on this in spring, we'll see if a simple pipe diameter change will help open up top. For now it seems 2" is fine for most goals, I kinda just want to push it

- For science, if it turns out it's the head, I've been sitting on a built head from HeadGames Motorworks (semi-local) which include full PnP, SUB conversion, +1 O/S valves and heavy valve train. Still stock cams as I hadn't built the block considering larger lift or fly cutting the piston relief's for +2. I'm uncertain if I'll just sit on this until the next BP iteration with a possible higher compression build (currently 8.6:1) using a different turbo TBD or if Smurfette will be jumping ship to join the Honda/GM camp during resurrection.

I know I haven't even finished mine but I can tell you I really want to build a K20/24 car. I really have come to like them. Sometimes I think I should have just started that route but thats ok. This will be fun to see what I can get out of it but I really think when this motor detonates I will swap it out completely. Plus David at KMiata has been fantastic in every way when talking with him and honestly I just like supporting the businesses of people like that. Love your car btw. Definitely a favorite on here.

psyber_0ptix 10-10-2017 07:52 PM

Yea... Back when a bunch of this started, a lot of the easy button kits weren't fully developed or I also didn't (and still do not) have facility for accommodating more complex swaps. This was, after all my daily driver in all its forms for the better part of 5 years.

Now with a second car, and the prospect of downtime not affecting my work health, a hot swap is now feasible. I just did my best the easiest way I could with what was available at the time. My first motor was built in a storage unit lol.

miataman04 10-10-2017 11:47 PM

And look at you now, we are all drooling over your progress

I was telling Vlad its hard to settle with my 300ish after being around your car at the GAP lol

psyber_0ptix 10-27-2017 10:51 AM

FM2 clutch is slipping on the dyno. Time to start thinking about twin disk or kmiata BMW trans which would mean that brand new v8r PPF will go unused.

Or maybe just start building the next iteration and let this setup run its course.

sonofthehill 10-27-2017 11:02 AM

Ouch, sorry to hear it.

psyber_0ptix 10-27-2017 11:13 AM
