Congrats! I hope it's awesomer than you had dreamed of!
Apparently the reason it took so long is because they wanted to get the shop foreman and the tuner to do the extended drive at the same time together and schedules where hard to align with the types of projects queued. I just have to sort out the oil cooler, change pads and start hitting summit point (at wastegate). Then figure out an Aero approach after I'm at the point of understanding the vehicle. I wish I could make it to Miata's at the Gap, but alas, I hadn't known I was going to get my miata back in time. Unless someone wants to allow me to crash on a couch or floor?? |
Sweet, congratulations! What are you doing about the tranny? Bmw swap?
|
So far the original 6MT has been holding up fine through all it's abuse. I have a spare on hand, but eventually I'd like to migrate to a bmw option as soon as I slowly collect funds. Otherwise, 6mt for now until kswap.
Got the car today, it feels great to be in the miata but I have one issue that I'm concerned with. I topped it off with more ethanol, it's reading at about 79% E. The AFR however seem to reflect that of typical gas usage. Shouldn't using ethanol require different AFR targets and stoich ratio? https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...00f2aee62e.jpg |

Then, aside from cold start, this thing is pretty fun. O_O

That's a ton of power , congrats man :)
Kinda spools a little lazy down low. Otherwise BEAST |

You legitimately go from 180 to 330 rwtq (150) between 3600-4300 rpm when your turbo spools up. How the fuck does that feel. Damn dude... that's pretty mental.
Vlad, is the 'slow' response a function of the tune or low compression? I'm guessing that both play a role, but doesn't the compression limit things while the car is still in NA mode-ish? Thanks! |

I'm sure, like you mentioned, it has something to do with both tune and compression. But when in gear and running, it's completely manageable. When I built this motor, ethanol wasn't even on the radar but it's doing alright. I just got approval to have Friday off to try to make it to MATG. I just have to give the car a good shake down and make sure it's stable enough for the trip. I reallllly don't want to strand myself so will obviously not be pushing hard. I just need to sort out accommodations otherwise I'm sleeping in the Smurf. |

No worries ladies, I'm bunking up with Miataman04. See you all on Friday! :greddy:
|
Oh damn! Nice power! I bet that is a blast.
|
It's fun, but it'll run wastegate at best on track. There's still a lot for me to learn so now is where I stop doing things to the motor and think more on seat time now that I have a slow daily.
I can't find two fittings to complete the oil cooler setup. I'll have to order from Trackspeed again and start setting that up. Some catch can things I want to clean up and finish. I ripped the condenser out yesterday because a line was badly kinked. I just need trace what I think I smell as a coolant leak. I'm suspecting a pinhole in the SuperMiata radiator or what appears to be a squished oring on the drain plug(s). Hoses are tight. Maybe the radiator cap gasket. |
A very sad moment was discovering the limitation of the intercooler. Thinking that the turbo could use some headroom given the short piping configuration, I bought all the stuff to update the hotside to 2.25". Sadly, the inlet and outlets on the intercooler are a merely 2" period.
Crum, I guess it is what it is as I'll doubtfully pay for another custom intercooler. This core has so much more potential. |
Take it to an aluminum welder and have them put larger bungs on it
|
I'll snap a pic next time I'm under there. The end tank have somewhat of a triangular shape to them in cross section as it tapers down the height of the core. I'm uncertain a larger diameter pipe would fit without some modification. But this is all very nit picky. The car makes more power than necessary and it's almost as though I'm asking for a reason to blow this motor to build a K swap.
When it's down for the winter, I may have some work done like moving the IAT bung to the end tank at which point I'll revisit this. I hear some good stuff about NOVA speedshop in the area for welding. May check them out for an exhaust resonator and ask about intercooler stuff. Ducting is more important/urgent than this pipe, but it's one of those things that will just nag me. |
