Venezuelan President's Response To Food Shortage: Let Them Eat Rabbit : Parallels : NPR

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has unveiled an unusual strategy to help ease the chronic food shortage faced by many of his nation's 30 million people — something he calls Plan Conejo, or "Plan Rabbit."

Maduro and his ministers are embarking on a somewhat surprising — and to many, alarming — campaign to convince Venezuelans to eat rabbits. They say rabbits will make an excellent source of protein for the large number of people who don't have regular access to red meat or chicken as the result of the country's economic collapse.

^ Short answer: yes it can. Venezuela is the #2 producer of rabbit meat globally, with appx 277,000 tons per year. That works out to 8.1 kg per person per year which, while low, is slightly above the starvation level, and of course, should be considered as a supplemental source of animal protein rather than a sole source. Venezuela also produces in excess of 260,000 tons of beef cattle, 250,000 chickens, and 2.9 million pigs per year.

It should be noted that beef production has fallen dramatically in recent years, down from a high of over 400,000 tons in 1998.

It's the government, regardless of what side you're on -- they want your money regardless of ideologically in order to buy votes from some group.

Genuine observation:

I don't see why so many people act as though the USPS, the various cable providers, etc., are doing an especially poor job of what they purport to do.

The mail works, the internet service works. Both companies more or less deliver on what they promise for the price they promise, despite being bloated and unwieldy bureaucracies. Neither one robs me or forces their services upon me.

Huh? How is congress robbing the USPS? Are you referring to the mandate that they fund the health benefits of their retirees?

From my, admittedly limited, understanding they were forced to over fund retirement benefits many years into the future.

I know what you mean. It's almost like some external event occurred in 2008, two years after that mandate was passed, which negatively impacted the earnings of nearly every business in the US, many of whom were significant customers of the USPS...

If you terminate the life of a child prior to it passing through the vaginal canal, that's a woman's choice.

If you attempt to terminate the life of the child by flushing it down the toilet at McDonald’s immediately after it passes through the vaginal canal, you wind up in jail on an $11 million bail, facing an attempted murder charge.

It's vitally important to know the difference. Please dispose of your unwanted fetuses using only government-approved methods, and within the timeframe allowable by the laws of the state in which you reside.

No, it's more the point that R's are vehemently against Healthcare for all, but are totally fine with other forms of Socialism they personally benefit from.

Primary education for example.
