Do you still have the stock back bumper? I'm looking for one

[QUOTE=ctdrftna;638015]got the new bumper in finaly after a month of waiting.
just kinda test fit it. imagine the bottom rail cut out and a diffuser filling the gap
ill be bring my car to the body shop in two weeks i hope

Attachment 193418

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

if you are just cutting the middle part of the bottom rail, and both lower sides will remain(lower right & left part of the bumper),

correct me if I am wrong but it looks like it's going to create Air drag.

High pressure air might build up within the wheel well at high speeds.

for example:

worked on the car more today, after fixing the porta power

pushed out the rear as best as i could, but body pannels were cracking the glue and starting to seperate so i couldnt go nuts. im just gonna have to live with a bashed in rear end under the skin.

mounted the rear finish pannel and tail lights and started on the toggle latches to hold the trunk down. lm waiting to barrow a stud welder and dent puller to pull out the crease in the driver side quater. then i can get onto cutting the wheel wells and preping for flares.

tell what you think

hhmmm for some reason it still looks unleveled.. left side seems lower than the right.

ctdrftna 10-31-2010 01:15 PM

cause it is. come fix it for me

triple88a 10-31-2010 05:51 PM

adjustable springs? perhaps the antisway bar is preloaded too much?

or is it the body thats twisted?

Bond 10-31-2010 06:20 PM

Fuck it, it's a race car.

ctdrftna 10-31-2010 06:31 PM

I put the car into a wall at a drift event a few years ago when I was drivng it. It hit on the driverside rear corner. So it pushed that corner in and down. It wasn't that hard so the suspention is ok. But it creased the quater, and crunched arount the tailight area. That's why its off. Its a race car I don't really care if the body lines are off. It looks good from ten feet

ctdrftna 10-31-2010 06:33 PM

If your reffering to the actual car looking off. The driveway is not flat as all, and the suspention has never been aligned everything eyeballed

did some more work, finished the toggle latches and test fit the rear bumper again, this time to get some mounting ideas. i also ground down to bare metal on the driver quater to prep for pulling of the nasty dent.

on order are slick autos carbon mirrors(apr)
and a bunch of dzus fastners and weld on recepticals and some more toggle latches for mounting the bumper

jacob300zx 11-01-2010 05:15 PM

Whats stopping you from driving this thing? Didn't you wreck it in 2007? No trolling here but have you put too much time, sweat, tears, money into it to ever hit another wall drifitng? Very nice build though, I've been following it since the begining.

Yes it is risky, but that is what the man does. I am guessing it would be worthless to him if OP did not use the car for what he intended for it.

kotomile 11-01-2010 05:31 PM

I have to admit, I wince at the thought of those pretty CF bits out back crunching against a wall.

I read this whole thread last night and damn, i wish i had your talent!

triple88a 11-04-2010 07:52 PM

yeah i was kinda disappointed as well. probably a beast on the track though so lol.

imput1234 11-04-2010 10:35 PM

I just spend the last 2hrs reading this thread. Never got that many bonners at once before, you have hands down build the best miata ever. Can't wait to see this thing in action.

ctdrftna 11-05-2010 12:16 PM

Thanks! But the sad thing is, if I were to start over I woulds change so much. Mainly chassis stuff. My engine is the cats meow

astroboy 11-05-2010 08:45 PM

Good to see your getting the rest of the car together. Will she be ready for spring?

ctdrftna 11-06-2010 10:09 AM

thats what im hoping for. spring time paint. but we'll see it will be going next year for sure. but i want to buy a house next year too. so you know how that goes. im gonna work this weekend on mounting the rear bumper. then after that i gotta buy some flush mount head lights, and then bring it to my fabricator to mount the front body work and make some head light mounts and some other misc stuff

So when is this thing actually going to do what its made for?

Cspence 11-07-2010 07:37 PM

Might be a stupid question, but was the gas on? I've made that mistake before and got some snotty welds :giggle: ....looking forward to seeing this thing in action!

ctdrftna 11-07-2010 08:53 PM

yeah gas was on, double checked a million times, i squeeze the trigger and the needle on the gauge twitches. so its getting gas. i used roloc disks and acetone to clean the area to be welded. maybe the roloc contaminated the area. also this is the 1st time i used an extention cord( made from very heavy gauge wire suitable for the welder 220v) im thinking this was drawing alot of power from the welder. evey other time ive welded ive had it pluged right into the outlet and its worked fine. im not worryed, it looks like crap but its covered and its sturdy

challenge: build the same car, do 80% of the work yourself, build your own motor, and parts. and last but not least you cant be in debt because of it. if you beat me ill ill bow down to you

most likley it will be done by summer next year. but im saving to buy a house in the spring time so we'll see

aug 11-08-2010 07:00 AM

I don't see the problem with taking time with a project.. I've been working on my motorcycle for 2 years and it hasn't been driven consistently yet. Why rush through an experience like this? My bike is a far cry from his Miata, but this is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby. If you have the time and resources to actually "complete" it, you'll save money by having a definitive end; opposed to continually modding until you sell it..

Told me to knock it off and keep it off the road, and that I was lucky the woman cop didn't come cause she's a bitch. A slap on the wrist, I don't need to be told twice. My licences is finally clean

damn ricer cops! think they can just roll up in a elcipse and when they lose they actually have the nerve to say "i almost had you"

triple88a 11-08-2010 04:22 PM

so how do they know its illegal to be on the road? or is it not registered or something?

ctdrftna 11-08-2010 05:03 PM

no body work on the car, no plate. no nothing. loud ass car riping up and down the road in a neighborhood.

astroboy 11-11-2010 10:46 PM

I think the most important part of the challenge that you didn't include is: don't have a partout thread near/at the end of the build.

Bumper looks good, what diffuser are you going with?

sasquatch 11-12-2010 02:06 AM

just went over the whole build... took me a long time but it was TOTALY worth it..... AMAZING build!!!!! keep up the awesome work!!!! i cant wait to see it finished and drifting the heck out of the turns :D

It really isn't.

Throughout this thread myself and many others have had nothing but nice things to say. And we all still say nothing but praise for the ammount of money/work poured into this.

Problem is, even if its GODLY and makes people piss themselves in awe after a few years people lose interest if its not finished.

Its not like we're hating on him for taking longer than 2 weeks. Its been 2 years.

I understand that it is VERY expensive OP, no doubt there. We're just all antsy to see it in action.

jacob300zx 11-12-2010 02:37 AM

3 years, lets see how much more crap he bolts on before he drives it on the track.

yeah i cant pretend like i havent thought of parting it out. but im to close to being done to do that. and iv watched alot of my friends do that and it makes me sick.

honestly i dont care if you people loose intrest in my build. im not building it for you. i post it so people can see if they want. personaly, i loose intrest with looking at all the fm2 and begi cars on here. there are only a handfull of original cars on this fourm

This statement of yours might rile a few...

You do have talent and resources many here do not, and I sure as heck respect and admire those that push the envelope and figure it out for the rest of us. Just be respectful of those that put time and effort into a clean reliable build, even if its building on the lessons learned by others. Custom might be cool, but I would rather spend my money on what we know works. Besides, some here like sleepers.

kotomile 11-12-2010 11:39 PM

Might rile a few, but it's true..

I mean, my car's ok but it's pretty standard fare. I won't be hurt if someone says it isn't that original, because it isn't. It's fun, and that's what most of us are trying to accomplish anyway.

OP's car is sick, and though most of us don't have the means to recreate it, we can drool over it on the internet. :)

kotomile 11-12-2010 11:39 PM

Double post, sry.

18psi 11-13-2010 01:02 AM

The fact that 80% of cars here are same are similar is true.

But that REALLY ISN'T a bad thing at all. I've been told at a young age "if it aint broke don't fix it". That advice has helped me tons when dealing with cars and other projects. There's a reason many do the same thing: cause it works.

But hey props to you for being different, its just that much more entertainment for us reading through the thread.

And you're right, the car is for you not for us. So I'll shut up now and try to learn some patience:)

Chiburbian 11-13-2010 06:52 PM

Agreed. My point was that every car is special - to its owner. People put a lot of care into thier car and to disparage one because they went the safe (and common) route rather than blazing new trails might chafe on some.

Thats not what I got out of your post btw, I just wanted to clarify.

Your car IS AWESOME, but that doesn't mean everyone elses is "chopped liver."

WhiteLight 11-14-2010 06:45 AM

Just read this whole thread like a playboy, it was definitely porn. It's such a great build it's depressing. Almost makes me wanna scrap my project and get an evo IX. Fuck the cops and the haters, mad props on the build!

i dont mean to make it sound like i think every one eles car is choped liver. every miata is awsome, and it is special to the owner. but my car is far from that and it takes alot more thought and time to build and plan out. it just agrivates me when people give me shit for how long its taken, im the one who wants to drive it most. very very bad. but im willing to be paitent to have the car right and not be a pile of shit on the track.

any way

ok, got the driver side fender flair and side skirt mounted today, very tedious and a big pain in the ass, im not to thrilled with the fitment of autokonexion stuff. but oh well. its on. may not look the greatest up close. but good enough for a race car. im sill gonna go back and do some trimming to mke it fit better.
tell me what you think

the flair was made for the stock bumper and wouldnt work with the one i have so i had to cut. im gonna try to smooth the body line out better some how. or do you think its ok?

the fender is just sitting in place

triple88a 11-14-2010 04:05 PM

most people are saying this is taking long but in reality they are just loving it man. I personally would love to see this baby rolling because it still amazes me what you've done. I could care less if it takes few years to see it flying as long as we get those pics daily :P

for the back you can cut around the fender like the normal flares you see so you dont have to extend it all the way back to the lights.

shlammed 11-14-2010 04:15 PM

the flare i would either blend into the level you have it, or build/modify the peice that came with the kit to get it to fit with the new bumper....

since you are drifting and would like the rear to be able to come off... just blend the rear to the level you have it.... aka trim the bottom line to make it seem to fit better...

miata2fast 11-14-2010 04:20 PM

I can not say that it looks so great. I would do some more finish work before I would let any one's comment influence you however.

In saying that however, how in the hell are you going to make the back of the car flow together right. Especially around the tail lights. Something is just not quite right.

You are losing the natural shape of the car with that kit (IMO). I would think that some fender flairs, front splitter, and a wing would look much better, and would be easier and cheaper to fix in the event of an altercation with the wall.

Just trying to give you good input.

Edit: Oops, see you have a deck lid. Forget what I said about a wing.

triple88a 11-14-2010 04:37 PM

perhaps add a little part to complete the fender down on top of the regular bumper and leave a open gap on the bottom?

Something between this
http://www.bespokeventures.com/blog/...5/js2-copy.jpg
and this
http://www.bespokeventures.com/blog/...as20102068.jpg

astroboy 11-14-2010 05:18 PM

I think you need to put the bottom part on and make it look more like the car you are styling it after, add a full rear diffuser, or chop the rear bumper apart and glass it together so it flows.

Like this:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3586/...17c97bac75.jpg

Or like this:
http://www.doubledgarage.com/wp-cont...1/IMG_5389.jpg

Personally I would go for the latter and attach the risers to the fenders.

ctdrftna 11-14-2010 08:01 PM

see i cut the rear flares, the slick auto car uses a stock rear bumper. that is what the flares were molded for. my bumper woulnt work with them, thats why i cut them, but i im gonna take the cut offs and see if i can fit them to the bumper. i want to keep the car very detachable. so i can pull the pannels off. im not looking to have a show car finish. the body lines dont have to be perfect as long as every thing does its job. i was hoping for a better fit on the parts. i mean if you guys had these parts you would say wtf, i mean they are bad ass looking but the mounting flanges and stuff are way off, so im doing the best that i can. i can sand some stuff down and try and get less gaps and stuff
