yeah man with the lathes we got in our shop we can turn 4-500 lb steel with ease. Taking half an inch cut from aluminum at 500-600rpm is like cutting butter with a hot knife.

Your work is impressive....
I see you added your location...I'm right over in Meriden. Maybe I'll see you rippin around in this beast one day! |
that is a pretty sick build.
|
Another Meridenite checkin in! I wanna see that thing! Chris you should get over to see my pile'o parts sometime soon! Its pretty depressing! lol
|
If that pile is depressing you, you can always ship it over here :)
as far as the coolant fitting goes, time to polish them up man :) make them look hawt :P |

so i havent done anything in a while due to the month of december and having all my funds ripped away by that thing called christmas.... i finaly got to the shop yesterday to do some more work on the thermostat housing, im hoping to have it to my welder this week, i just need to get a peice of tubing. now that the money sucking is over, excpect to hardcore updates to be happening next month including, finishing the cooling system and the ignition system.
Attachment 201627 the hole is for the coolant fill, this is why i need to get some tubing to raise the fill cap up a few inches Attachment 201628 Attachment 201629 Attachment 201630 this is the mount, im gonna stick it over to the side of the intake manifold, near the TB, im gonna weld on a bracket to the hoop for this to mount to |
wow... now start mass producing and make some moneys!!!
|
so ignition turned out to be a pain in the ass
i ordered boundary engineering COPS from there site a few days ago, then today i got an email saying my money was refunded, and a message saying the he was to far back ordered and shit. then thankfully i came on here and found the group buy there for them(i didnt see this untill today, i assumed they were availible) thank god i saw that!!!! that company needs to get its shit together. so that was FAIL next i was thinking AEM pencil coils with AEM twin fire CDI ignition..... i call my tuner to ask what his thought were on the ignition box, he says he has three of the fry on his dyno and they were junk... so thats out he recomended M&W pro14 box. i dont have $900 to spend on ignition sooo..... looks like toyota COP. im gonna order some brand new coils and go to the junkyard and get some plugs off a car there. and make my own harness and mounting plate |
why did u rule out the toyota cops in the first place?
|
just cause i stumbled across the boundary ones. they looked and sounded real nice. then i started thinking CDI, but thats outta my price range and not really needed
|
Good call on the no-go with the AEM twin fire. They are indeed junk. We blew up 2 13B-REWs before we figured out that the damn ignition was causing random misfires and blowing them. That was a costly learning experience.

got the t-stat housing back
Attachment 201538 Attachment 201539 Attachment 201540 still gotta clean it up with some scotch brite and acetone |
holy hell. you're really going all out on the re-route aren't ya? good stuff

install it already! :D
and finish it already! :giggle: BTW dat shit looks real good! |
Hugely off topic but in this image it shows a throttle wheel with multiple pick-up points for the throttle cable. Did it come on the throttle body? Did you source it separately? Heck - did you fab it? Where can I get a couple? |
that came on my edlebrock throttlebody
|
I thought some one sold that wheel by it self. I dont remember if it was begi or brperformance or some one else since it was long ago when i saw it.
From memory they had few different designs so you can get one that is very rough on the lower pedal but very fine on the higher end or vise versa. |

good shit for this weekend
got 95% of everything to do my ignition. i need to stop at radio shack i may not be able to make the mounting plat yet but we'll see what happens. also im gonna wire up the injectors after swaping clips and re-looming the harness and extending wires for my coolant temp sensors. and i will be mounting the t-stat housing, lastly im gonna order the rest of the stuff to finish up the cooling system like a fan, overflow tank, fittings, hose, some other odds and ends. Attachment 201367 the black stuff is aerospace grade mesh wire loom i couldnt fathom buying used coils. brand spanking toyota denso cops Attachment 201368 |
No words to describer how sick your car is man awesome build.
|
so how close are you to finishing this?
|
Very WOW.

if all goes as planned, after this month ill just need to do my oil system and turbo coolant and oil lines, a breather setup, and the rest of my gages, wiring, vaccum and misc stuff, and im ready to fire. im hoping to have the car dyno'ed by the end of april. ofcourse i still have the bodywork, rebuilding the rear, and tires for my wheels and alignment befor it hits the track, realisticly im hoping to hit the track late summer to fall. i have money for the autokonexion gt widebody kit in the bank, im waiting for tax returns to order it cause i want a carbon vented hood, and trunk, and i want to buy material for a splitter and im thinking of having the fenders and flares made from kevlar

have you thought about going with the N2 replicas that rharris19 made for the wide body option......i know the GT kit is kind of pricey(but looks really good) but would be exspensive to replace if something happens to it on the track..... |

This is the most ridiculous shit ever... in a good way. :jerkit: This car is a long time coming, I sure hope you don't wreck it your first time out. Would be a shame to waste all of this fab work. I can't believe this thread is almost 2 years old.

Just something i'm a bit confused about is, is that black oil cooler pipe the main coolant return to the radiator or is there another one?
it looks a bit tiny to me. Attachment 201003 hustler just dont forget to "clean the work area" afterwards. |
Wha? The tiny black hose up top is coolant overflow. The biggie is the upper rad hose from the reroute he made. AmIrite?

it looks a bit tiny to me. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...a/IMG_0104.jpg hustler just dont forget to "clean the work area" afterwards. like said above, the small line is for the coolant overflow tank the big ones are -16an they are plenty big and are the same size thats used on 1000hp+ drag cars the coolant comes out of the back of the head, into the thermostat housing, then to the upper radiator bung, then the lower one goes into the waterpump |
right i was talking about the black metal pipe in the background thats connected to the aluminum fitting u made few pages ago on the left and then the hose leads up under the IC pipe, not the tiny overflow line...
Those types of fittings look like the fittings used on oil coolers as why i called them that. It just looks like its about 1" in dia which is not much for a coolant line. |
you use like -8an on an oil cooler, v8s prob use -10 for oil. that hose is -16 its the biggest most companys sell. its all you need, the rubber hoses on our cars stock are huge and prob overkill, the hose i.d is prob 7/8"- 1"
|
Hose ID on a stock hose is 32mm/1.25". I was a little skeptical about the hose ends, too, but if it works that's cool. Drag cars don't really tax the cooling system since there are only busrts of WOT lasting a only few seconds. They also use a tiny radiator.

true, but more hp= more heat
and drift runs are not the long either. i think they will flow perfectly fine. |

Since 2008 you have been milking this thread and still on a garage, and whatever to then slam it against a wall ten minutes later. You could have easily buy a beater Miata, slap a cheapo EBAY turbo and be drifting long long time ago. Oh, let me guess you want to do it right all from the get go... The cylinder head job is a waste of time, have seen beater 240sx, mustangs and even Miatas who own the pavement better than any high end heavily modded car. Its ridiculous, before I forget, you got my attention, LOL! Please close this thread, one thing is to talk about an engine build, another is that it goes on a tangent and start talking about drifting. Do not get pissed off if many people, like me, consider drifting the gayiest "sport" ever, its dead, well, the import scene is dead, get over with, slap some used tires, a chinacharger and post some real drifting videos see if you walk the talk. Besides having my attention, you are just another wannabe poser, you are definitely late. |
Guys, not to beat a rather uninteresting horse, but take a look over at Parker or Aeroquip for pressure drop (delta p) on hoses and hose fittings. Something like that -16 hose with a sweep 90 is designed for running many many gallons per minute. I don't know what our water pump puts out, but I'm sure it is much lower than the design limits of these hoses. That being said, I can't figure out why an auto manufacturer would use 1-1/2" hoses on this stuff.
I ran the numbers on the -6 fuel lines we run, even at 255lph (the h is the operative factor here), the delta p on those lines was almost too small to calculate, even with a few 90s and tees added in. Granted, I only did hydraulic design for like two years, which was 10 years ago now, but I remember using these -16s on some giant industrial hydraulic pumps. Someone smarter than me can tell us the numbers, but that 1" hose is all good. |

ctdrftna I would love to come up and see your car one of these days and so would a couple of other people from CT |
First of all the radiator is right on top of the intecooler, HELLO?
All that heat from the radiator is going to get soaked in by the intercooler. Finish that garage queen and burn some rubber! You remind me a guy in one of those Del SOl forums where everybody was UHH and AHH for years, another one who also had a Mazda 5 build thread and the same shyt, all other users were sobbing and "I want to see your car" and all that car kinky stuff and then at the end the project went south or simply it just remained a garage queen. Its cool that you do stuff to the car, but just because you do "more" does not mean is going to be super bad ass. I have seen it plenty of time on mx3.com, Mazdaforums.com and clubprotege.com. Spend 3,000 on a turbo, buy brand everything and 4 years down the road dont know why the car is just doing 14s on the quarter mile. |
