I can has intake manifold? Also, what kinda weight savings did you see with the tubed front? I'm considering it myself...

UrbanSoot 05-15-2009 06:36 PM

wanna make me one of those manifolds? how much will that cost?

ctdrftna 05-18-2009 04:52 PM

thanks for all the nice comments, i put alot of time into that mani, not sure on weight savings, i rear ended a person pretty good, i had a cage already, this was my solution, i want the car to be around if not under 2000lbs when finished. no fuel cells, not yet anyway, i already had a walbro 255, as extravagant as my build is, im trying to save cost here and there, my car went to newyork to get the custom turbo manifold, down pipe, exhaust, and charge pipes made, gonna be a sick top mount, very very short charge pipes, 3" v-band downpipe and exhaust, borla xr1 race muffler, tial 38mm gate, greddy rs bov. picks will be up in a month when i get it back. im gonna be getting precision 880cc injectors, and run a honda resistor box or wire resistors inline with each injector.

UrbanSoot 05-18-2009 05:16 PM

dont use resistors. get FJO injector controller. its $150 and works great!

just pure bad ass work so far, morgan at synapse motorsport is the man

they swaped my old style tial 38 for the new 38 vband gate
i know it looks weird with the angle of the turbo but it works good for the intercooler piping, also it looks like the dp with be tight, but is you look the turbo sits high enough over the hoop and frame for the down pipe to slide right under the gate and out the back. FUCKING AWSOME

damn... badass work man.

To all the 'haters'
I used to think drifting was so corny.... then i went to a formula D event.

It was tons of fun. fucking nuts how close they were getting to eachother; rubbing side-view mirrors. It was honestly 10x as exciting to watch as I had expected.
If you think it sucks, go to an event....

Would go again A++++++++!

elesjuan 06-19-2009 02:11 AM

I've been to more than one event, and I still think its pretty gay and bout as exciting as nascar IMHO...

This car is full of win, however. Shits SICK.

What size is that trubo? Looks liek a T3 turbine with a T4 compressor?

zoomin 06-19-2009 03:45 AM

how the heck are you going to route the downpipe?

ctdrftna 06-19-2009 06:00 AM

its a GT3071R

as for the downpipe

if you look in the 1st pic you will notice that the turbo sits above the front hoop/frame and that the wastegate is higher than the turbo, keep that in mind and look at the 2nd pic, there is plent of room to 90 off the turbo and go under the gate, and back under the car its gonna be a 3" vbanded dp to a 3" vbanded exhaust, i told them to make it look like a RSR, and i gave them a 3" borla xr-1 race muffler to use

SOL General 06-19-2009 05:12 PM

Ever thought of making tube front to sell? If so, I am totally interested.

ctdrftna 06-19-2009 07:46 PM

you cant really make a tublar front end for production. its kinda one of stuff like custom roll cages. my car is 100% racecar. this stuff isnt for the faint of heart. if you want bolt on go see one of the companys owned by old men (FM,begi, every other miats parts company lol) my parts are one off and i dont plan on making more because of the cost and how labor intensive it is

Heat shield for WG coming soon?

That's impressive work! Might I ask, you loaded or something?! That's gotta be a lot of $$ to throw down on a weekend drifter... Bigger plans?

leatherface24 07-08-2009 06:41 PM

Good lord what an awesome mess!!! I love it!!

hustler 07-08-2009 09:10 PM

feels good, man.

ctdrftna 07-08-2009 10:07 PM

i dont think ill need a heat sheild for the gate, maybe some gold heat barrier stuff on the hood. and id like a turbo blanket on the exhaust housing. it is alot of money.... way to much, im not loaded, im just a hard worker, with the exception of the fab work going on, this car is paid for. thats why its taking forever to finish. i also am a machinist so i do alot of work myself, the motor cost me 1/3 or what it would cost you guys cause i machined and built it myself( i work part time for kehltech performance in ct) and i have a chassis/welding guy who helps me out. there is still alot to be done. as far as goals for this car, it is not a DD at all, becuase i crashed the car i had to tube the front and if im gonna do that i might as well build to formula d ruels to make the car able to go as far as i want in drifting. i would like to try some time attack too.

leatherface24 07-08-2009 10:26 PM

Btw your forum name needs to be changed to ctbtsxna.

Faeflora 07-08-2009 11:38 PM

Wow, when you wrote that your charge piping would be short I was like, ho hum yah right but you really meant it. The hot manifold design is a really great idea. Fantastic! Lovely welds too.

Mouglie 07-23-2009 01:44 AM

finally seen all this thread and now i can sleep in peace, awesome build, i couldn't close the thread. I just wanna see what happens next lol... (notice what time i sent you that pm...)

p51hellfire 07-23-2009 03:20 AM

Fucking astonishing how far this car has come, beautiful!!!!!!! Just beautiful!!!!!

mike_671 07-23-2009 04:42 AM

fuck my car...

Savington 07-23-2009 05:19 AM

Gorgeous car, but I would have gladly added a foot of IC pipe to eliminate the 100 degree bend right after your turbocharger. Please don't put a turbo blanket on it, either.

Mouglie 07-23-2009 09:33 PM

why not a turbo blanket?

curly 07-23-2009 09:47 PM

Turbo's make heat. Lots of it. They get rid of this heat by radiating off into the air. By wrapping it with a turbo blanket, you're keeping it dangerously hot and not letting it cool as much. A heat shield will let it radiate heat but keep that hot air from getting too close to important systems, such as brakes. Very bad explanation, but you get the point.

ARTech 07-23-2009 10:06 PM

I always wondered why people on this forum were against turbo blankets. Are you saying it will decrease the life of the turbo since it runs hotter?

As I understand it, the bigger the pressure differential across the turbine, the faster it will spool. You want a hot manifold/turbine and cold downpipe.

great build ctdrftna

miataspeed2005 07-23-2009 10:25 PM

Damn I can't even believe how many turbo miatas are in ct now. I remember like 4-5 years ago when me and vash were like the only ones. We should all meet up, like august 8th?

You contaminate this sexy thread with your already much discussed homely question.

i'm sure your link has some information for whoever is interested in it, not me.
ctdrftna mentioned he might get a turbo blanket on the exhaust housing, savington alluded to it being a bad idea. i asked why to know if there was a reason specific to his set up. how was your post relevant to this thread?

kotomile 07-24-2009 11:07 PM

Because once we start debating the merits or risks of a blanket, this thread is going to go off-topic fast. There are other threads here about the topic, so the matter can be discussed there without bumping up this cool build thread, making me keep checking in on it only to find a bunch of n00bs arguing about heat management.

RotorNutFD3S 07-25-2009 08:54 PM

Wow... Awesome build and work! The engine/turbo setup is almost exactly what I wanted in my car, but time and money disagreed with my plans. lol Keep it up and can't wait to see start-up videos!

kotomile 07-25-2009 10:22 PM

Sick as all hell, I still want to see how you handle the compressor -> IC inlet.

It's not going to take long to turn those white stickers above the exhaust several shades darker...

ctdrftna 07-26-2009 11:13 AM

the ic inlet wont be an issue, 45 degree 2"-2.5" coupler, and 2.75"-3" on the other side

l_bader 07-26-2009 02:06 PM

Looking good. How soon before you think you'll be able to turn the key?

WonTon 07-27-2009 12:09 AM

what are your plans for fuel delivery at the manifold? i noticed that you dont have a rail or injectors installed, and i didnt notice any holes in your runners for the injectors. will you be fabing a rail or do you got something else in mind?

ctdrftna 07-27-2009 05:35 AM

injector ports and fuelrail mounts are on the head. main reason i took on building a manifold is cause i didnt have to deal with fuel injection.

precision 880cc injectors and a m-tuned or similar high flow fuel rail
walbro 255 intank pumop, aeromotive fpr, megasquirt, ect

WonTon 07-27-2009 02:07 PM

you know what, i completely forgot about the ports being on the head! i have been looking at alot of rotary shit this weekend. i was looking at runners for 13b's and 4 rotors so thats just been stuck in my head!

DazedandConfused 09-03-2009 10:47 AM

so this thread dropped suddenly.

bump for updates. i would love to see more pictures or maybe a video of it running :D

some odds and ends, got a few more parts in, if i get everything i need in by this weekend, ill post another update. ive been doing some final steps with the intake mani, and im waiting on some fuel rail stuff and injector clips, and arp hardware for the manifolds

webby459 10-13-2009 08:50 PM

Dude, I didn't see this thread before, and then I saw that Morgan made the sex-pipes! He did my tune a couple months ago, and I keep thinking that in a weak moment I will take my log shit to him and make me a bad ass vband setup. He does fucking awesome work, welds are 100% better than top-notch! Props to one of the boys in my hood!

ctdrftna 10-13-2009 09:36 PM

oh sick, so he tuned your MS, im gonna bring my car back there when im ready for tunning, yeah i cant speak highly enough of synapse, such nice guys and super smart. :bigtu:

webby459 10-13-2009 10:05 PM

Synapse is like 15 miles from my house, when you are going to get it tuned shoot me a PM so I can come over. I want to see your shit in person and fuck up my ears some more in the dyno room.

buffon01 10-13-2009 11:57 PM

Nice fucking build. More car porn please!!!

NA6C-Guy 10-14-2009 12:29 AM

Jesus Christ. I haven't seen this thread in a while and I gotta say... this car isn't fucking playing around. Great looking build. Those manifolds look bad ass and everything else seems really well done. Congrats and hope it all works out well for you. I honestly thought this car was already done by now. This was the first thread I subscribed when I started posting on here like a year and a half ago.

ctdrftna 10-14-2009 05:39 AM

i thought i would be done by now too

Don't worry brother. My build...eh resto. is well into a year and a half already and I know I still have a few more months to go.

Anyway....top notch man!!! That manifold is just brilliant. I was worried about the position on the downpipe but, it came out beautifully.

I agree that the manifold looks cool, but we'll see if it holds up to real track abuse.

+1 on this. But, fwiw, Morgan, the owner of synapse, used to race open wheel, and was involved in the build of an srt-4 that I think was campaigning in speed world challenge for a while. So, he knows track duty. If you ask them to build it for this, they will do it and do it well.

I am not a shill, he just did my tune and he walked me all through his shop. I've seen great welding in industry, and this stuff was top-notch. If you guys keep prodding and throw down the gauntlet, or something, I might have to scrap my plans for my 1.6 build reusing the FM log and have Morgan build me up a sweet v-band shorty for a 1.8. I know that's what I'll end up with, anyway, I'm just pussy.
