Rally (and by rally I mean the guys that are blazing through every kind of terrain imaginable and defying physics at speeds most will never see on pavement) drivers are the gods of all motor racing IMO. And yes, that includes F1 drivers.

I believe somebody here said it - Drifting is a lot like figure skating (not that it's a bad thing) it's scored mostly on style. I don't think I'd bring the 'fear' factor into it.

People used to tell me my 500hp Drag Miata was a waste! Don't take it personally.. You are enjoying your car and having fun!

BenR 03-06-2008 11:50 AM

The rally comparison is not completely off base, alot of dynamics of drifting are similar to rally and dirt oval racing. As well, a couple of the top US drivers have pro rally experience.

ctdrftna 03-06-2008 07:25 PM

exactly, its the driving that is close, not the scoring, also drifting is getting more and more away from the style aspect, they run gps in the car and sensors on the steering rack to get real numbers on speed, line and angle. i know im not gonna win this and i dont intend to, and belive me i can take a bashing on the things im into, ive been riding flatland for 10years that also has been compared to figureskating and get alot of shit from ramp and dirt riders.

as for room in the engine bay, its not that much room actualy it looks it, but that hoop is in about the same place as the factor metal. and if your trying to tell me to put a v8 in that thing you can go impale your self. i work with v8 engines every day, i have respect for them, but im not a fan of arcadic technology.

Seriously...you guys gonna start ragging on Rhys Millen...or how about his Dad?? The guy who still holds the record time at Pike's Peak?? Don't you think it says something about there being a comparison when Rod Millen decides he's gonna drift, can hop in a car and prove he's worth something?

While neither are my favorite drifters, (and I'd choose rod over rhys) it says a lot. I'm pretty sure if any of you actually took some time to look at drifting you might actually come to appreciate something of it. I don't know what it is about the "grip driving" crowd...and by that i mean aspiring boy racers that makes them think they know so much more than everyone else. How many drag racers are you gonna bash for being retarded? how many drifters? And how many of these same people that you bash try to bash you in return? Not many in my experience. Last I checked not many of you have worked up to get every kind of racing license that exists, I know several drifters that do...hell the youngest to ever get his D1 license started in Spec Miata, then Formula Mazda...you gonna tell him he doesn't know how to drive??

what miata? 03-07-2008 01:35 AM

anyways.......... just a quick pointer i threw a flywheel in my miata and clutch kick sucked after that. i put the stocker back in and felt nice... and i have power too 300+ prob to the wheels.... you dont keep that... how do you say momentum if you would call it the break the tires. i mean they with break loose but not as violent as the stock flywheel.... and its not tourqe ... i went to the dyno and put the same #'s about... anyways just throwing that out there put some thought into it....

continue with the bashing

english?

driftingf3s 03-07-2008 02:18 PM

about a page ago someone said that the bp isn't good for 400hp for very long. my motor is built for 500+ and is tuned down to 400rwhp. i have gone 12k miles so far on the same setup and NOT ONE THING has ever gone wrong. it's all about building it right, not cutting corners. anyone can get big numbers, but how long do you want to keep them? the O.P. seems to have it right, and he obviously knows what he's doing. keep up the good work and i will follow this thread and see where you come out at. best of luck bro

^better hurry up and sell it :giggle:

i was talking about his set up.... he is throwing in a light weight fly wheel.... i did not like it when i went that route...... you dont break the tires loose as good as with the stock flywheel, when clutch kicking(very common in drifting) sorry i was not so clear on the point of view

ctdrftna 03-07-2008 08:28 PM

the diffrence i noticed with the flywheel change wasnt clutch kicking, my car clutch kicked fine, not that i will be doing it as much with big power, but i notice a huge change in shift locking, again not that i do that much for obvious reasons, but in the rain i used to be able to shift lock, with the fidanza flywheel its a no go, why can you have big power reliably, its not the engine its the drive train that worrys me, when i blow the 6spd i think im gonna do a quaife gear set in my spare 5 spd, or if im up to it find a 6spd sequential or dog box for rx7 and make a conversion kit

Thats because you loose so much rotaional inertia. It takes more power to spin a heavy flywheel, so the tires have a better chance of locking up when trying to spin the heavyer flywheel.

I don't know if its cool or I'm pissed to see another turbo miata pop up in CT....:vash:

J/K dude, build looks sick. Ohh, and getting your car "jacked" in CT is highly unlikely.
