These are the phones which are stationed outside the service elevator on each floor of Hancock Tower. (This is from the 93rd floor.)

It occurs to me that a generation of people now exist, some of which are likely employed in this building, for whom the use of the one on the right is non-intuitive.

And there was a time when listening in was a thing.

At the other end of the spectrum of beasts, I shot this one while out washing a car yesterday. I couldn't get a clear shot with my phone camera but it was drinking the morning condensation off the hood.

This is why being in jail sucks.

Six men, one marginal toilet / sink combo, zero dignity.

(Also, no soap. WTF, Chicago PD?)

Wanna know what's weird?

This may be the most epic concert performance in history:

Take note of the audience shot at 0:22. I broadcast to audiences far larger than that every day, and yet it will never feel as gratifying.

Around 1995 or so, I made a gating decision. One path led me to where I am now.

Ok, I've now officially gone down a rabbit-hole of the most epic rock performances of all time.

And, in theory, I'm supposed to be doing productive work right now

This is officially the most epic concert performance which can ever happen:

If you don't have a set of studio-grade monitor speakers to listen to this on, don't even bother. If I were you (and thank FSM I'm not), I'd carry my sad little PC speakers out to the Montrose Harbor pier, set them alight, and then cast the flaming ruin into Lake Michigan.

Thanks Joe, for making me realize that the new normal is to just accept the steaming piles of bovine dung, that is passed on to us as new music.

It's one of my life's regrets that I never got to see Queen during their heyday (I was too young to travel to Montréal or something other than the concert backwater that was Edmonton in those days). However, I did get to see Pink Floyd (minus Roger Waters) in Vancouver during their PULSE tour in 1994. To this day, the single most epic, mind-blowing event I've ever experienced. Here's the same song, with (almost) the entire band and, as a bonus, it features the world's largest mirror ball. Ten minutes of musical perfection:

The size of parking spaces out in the 'burbs is just getting ridiculous.

Not when the size of cars are getting so much bigger.

The SS is absolutely MASSIVE and the truck is even bigger...

This has been one of those "Joe rocks out AutoCAD drawings and wiring documentation like a madman, while scraping the charred yet slimy crust off of the bottom of YouTube in the background" kind of weekends.

We begin with the Academy Award winning 1964 cinematic masterpiece Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Stanley Kubrick wishes he was this rad.

Yes, I actually watched the whole thing. And yes, I have been drinking.

Then onto the marionette-driven nightmare fuel which is Shirley Temple's Storybook presents: Winnie the Pooh.

I'm pretty sure this program holds the record for the longest continuous camera shot in the history of scripted television. I assume that this was because they could only afford one camera and no editing.

And who could forget the epic drama of Clyde Frog? Here we have his magnum opus, Clyde Frog Learns about Gun Safety, featuring Safe-T Man!

Followed closely the gripping masterpiece Clyde Frog Examines the Medicine Cabinet.

Towards the end of the evening, the stuff I bought from the [not sure of gender person] on the corner started to kick in, which means it's time for H.R. Pufnstuf!

Yep, still trippin. Bring on Lidsville!

The hats are talking to me.

I'm scared.
