That's the part I had trouble with...

If a certain city draws its municipal water from a source which is at a great elevation, then utilizing that water for hydroelectric generation on its way to the distribution system makes sense.

Distributed generation, by comparison, rarely makes economic sense at grid-scale. A system which utilizes such a reservoir would be well-served to install a single, large-scale generating plant at any point between the outlet of the reservoir and the inlet to the municipal water-treatment plant. All else being equal, a small number of large generators in a single location is more efficient, less costly, and easier to maintain than a large number of small generators scattered all throughout the system.

In this case, Lucid Energy is a new company which seems to have been formed for the sole purpose of marketing this specific implementation of small-scale hydroelectric generation, and will therefore obviously say whatever needs to be said in order to sell them.

I live in a pretty large suburban town. I have electric and natural gas, but no municipal water or sewer. Guess I am shitoutofluck...pun intended

 

I'm sure it is more than sufficient for the ~70hp 1.6 liter based engine in front of them.

 

Does anyone else remember happypuppy.com? I don't know what reminded me but I hadn't thought about it in years. I spend a lot of time in my early teen years scouring happypuppy for good demos and then hassling my parents not to use the computer so it would download faster.

 

Are demos still a thing?

With the current shitstorm that is the gaming industry, and even worse the gaming/review press, I just pirate things and then decide if I want to purchase them or not. and I DO actually purchase them.

No idea. I haven't played a computer game in...probably 10+ years.

I remember in college, we had one game (might have been Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed?) that had multiplayer over LAN. The game would play without the disc but you had to start it up with the disc. So we had a whole routine where we'd start at one end of the hall -- first room would get their games started, then hand the disc off to the next room, who would get their games started and then hand it off again, all the way down the hall.

 

Oh man, its like playing StarCraft with spawn copies on LAN night. God I miss that ****.

 

 

last night my wife said she hopes our son doesn't grow to like "games like that" in reference to my Borderlands 2 playing earlier in the evening.

What is wrong with her? Borderland games are the best games ever.

 

 

I wonder how hard it would be to construct an apparatus at home which would allow one to melt down 15-20 lbs of scrap iron and then re cast it using a lost-mould process with patterns produced on a 3d printer squirting PLA or MoldLay filament...

Then again, it seems that there are quite a few different overseas foundries offering to produce manifold castings in small quantities for extremely reasonable prices...


It begins to make sense how the TacoTaco manifolds are able to be sold so cheaply. What if someone who actually knew what the words "fluid dynamics" mean were to design a manifold which emulates the internal geometry of a tubular manifold and have it produced by the same sweatshop?

I'm trying to research why a super-elliptical oblate spheroid (OS) waveguide might outperform a standard elliptical OS waveguide (for high frequency audio) and, if so, at what N value results would be optimum.

Subsequently I will be trying to determine the best way to make a physical prototype (2) of the result of my investigation to within 1/6" of nominal curvature. For cheap.
