I'll be arriving sometime Friday early afternoon. I think we will be camping at the track. Hit the friday night BBQ, then go to bed at a decent time. Have a good bfast, be at the track early. Don't break the car or myself all day.
Dinner Saturday night someplace yummy but not overly expensive, would like to go with an MT.net group here.
Sunday same as saturday, except head north in the eve.

Also, Petrolmed, if there's any chance you want track time better sign up NAO. It'll be completely sold out by tomorrow I expect.

This might sound silly but... go play the track on a racing simulator if possible. If not possible, gran turismo will work. Do the tutorial, it shows the lines and will help you a lot... at least it helped me a lot.
Also, what aidan said.
Also, watch braking into turn 3. there's deceptively little traction on turn in.
OH WAIT you were asking for experts.

I like my racequip pro. At this point, SA2010's are good another 5 years and they're cheap... but SA2015's aren't particularly expensive either. Just shop around, but make sure to get SA2010 or SA2015.
thank you very much this is exactly what I needed to know.... and the Racequip Pro15 Helmets - Auto Racing SA2015 Snell Rated is just in my price range
The fancy restaurant is called Tarpy's, it's about 2 miles down the road from the entrance to the track. Not cheap, but very very tasty. As I said, I'm happy to go somewhere else, but I don't eat dinner in Monterey very often so I can't recommend anywhere in particular. I only know about Tarpy's because it was the traditional location for dinner-after-track-day for Aaron's events, back in the day. Maybe G can suggest somewhere?
As far as helmets go, the thing to know about them is that different people have different shaped heads, even if the sizes are nominally the same. As such, a Bell may fit one person, while someone else may be most comfortable with a Simpson or a Racequip. My advice is to find a local store, go there, try on the different brands of helmet, and buy the one that fits you most comfortably. You should be able to wear it for 10-15 minutes without feeling any pressure points.
As for first track day advice, learning the line on a game/simulator ahead of time will help. Other than that, listen to what your instructor has to say, be smooth, be deliberate, and keep your eyes up and looking ahead.

My go-to lunch joint for MRLS is Ioilis' Pizzeria, but that's in Carmel Valley. The other two places I know to be good and reasonably priced are Rosine's and RG Burger, both in Monterey. I will probably do the Embassy Suites BBQ/car show on Friday, but I would love to meet some of you gays for dinner after.
Thanks for the heads up turbofan. Right now I've got too many unknowns on my plate to sign up. Even if I don't get a spot, I'll definitely try and make it out to see the event and the BROS.
Sounds like this is gonna be a fun event, I may have to spectate one of the days. Since my car is not set up for track and the novice class filled up instantaneously.
I am up to meet you guys at the Saturday dinner, if you'll have a lowly spectator.

I think most, if not all, of us will be at the BBQ Friday night. But Saturday dinner is the question!
i can ask my cousin if he has any other recommendations, he is a chef and lives in Monterey.
So, for Saturday dinner we have:
Ian
Aidan
Andrew
Vlad
Jsmusmc
Petrolmed
I expect G too right?
Anyone else in for dinner? I'll tart searching for a venue...
