Default Big noob cant get car started with MS2

I'm having issues getting my car to start and am completely lost.
Set up is as follows..

Megasquirt 2 built by Reverant to be pnp with a 2001 miata(bought from a member here)
Car is a 2001 with turbo but right now I'm just trying to start it N/A
Stock Coil on plugs
Rx-8 injectors
I also have the MAF unplugged and the FM trigger wheel set on full retard. could the trigger wheel be making it unhappy? I'll gladly switch back to the stock one if it will help.
I really am completely lost. Thirdgen was trying to help me out but couldn't figure it out. As it sits the car cranks but won't spark. I can smell fuel as well.
I know you probably want me to upload a .msq, but honestly I don't know how. I'll try and figure it out asap.

When I was looking at my ignition settings it was set on EDIS and wasted spark. I tried it in other settings as well such as basic trigger and coil on plug to no avail.

So I'm just really lost. Any help would be really appreciated. I thought if I could just get it to start I could auto tune it. Never thought it'd be this big of a pain.

Sorry if this post makes little sense, any help would be massively appreciated
-Patrick

I don't understand the first part where it reads, "with turbo but trying to start N/A". Are you running a header? Or are you trying to start it up open turbo manifold?
As far as RX-8 injectors. I assume they are 195500-4450 yellow's. What is your required fuel? 13.2 is stock, 6.9 is 460 rx7 pnps, and I think I figured out 7.45 for the rx8 yellows.
The FM trigger: is it one of those adjustable FM trigger wheels? If so, they don't adjust to advance timing, only to retard. I believe it maxes out at 6* retard. Move it to full advance, and it'll then read the same as your stock wheel would. If the MS is calibrated to fire where the stock wheel is set, and you have the wheel full retarded, then it would throw off the timing calibration by 6*.

If you smell fuel, I assume the MS is reading the crank signal and firing the injectors, because I'm pretty sure the injectors won't fire unless a crank signal is detected. I mean, with no signal how would they know when to fire?

They are stock rx-8, so yes. By NA I mean I have the turbo installed but I don't have the compressor outlet attached to the intercooler piping. I will throw on the stock trigger wheel and check those settings later. It seems like every time I find information on the setting up the MS I lose the link.

You need to set that to 99/00 Miata as the ignition setup. Otherwise it will not read the cam and crank sensors correctly.

When you loaded the tune did it thow any warnings at ya.
Mine had 10 and the one that kept it from starting was a config error so make sure you dont have a config error.

Yes! It did. I had no idea what they meant or how to fix them. I assumed they would go away if I fiddled with stuff. Obviously that didn't go well..

He means in basic setup where it says tach/output where your EDIS setting or whatever was...open the pull down menu...there should be a choice labeled "miata 99/00" or similar...mine has it. I think this is firmware dependant? If it's not there, then I think you didn't create your project correctly and link it to your firmware folder.

I didn't see it when I looked. I will try to start from scratch tomorrow. I'm done tonight because I just snapped about bolt taking my a/c p/s belt off.

Get some anti stress relaxation, and remember, don't be mad at your car. I felt like parking my truck on my car A LOT, just have patience and it'll work out. Don't change a setting unless you understand what it is you're changing and how it will affect your car.

Well if it thru a config error it will prob not run till you fix it. Mine was that the ebc was turned on and using the same output as something else. You might check that but if you have a confi error it is an issue I think you have to resolve. ( I am a newb too thou so if someone with more experience says different they are prob right)

Which member did you buy the ECU from? Also post a datalog (trying to start) and the map that is loaded in the ECU.

I got it from Jfornachon. He said it worked for him and I believe him. This is all about my incompetence with the megasquirt (as far as I know). I will try and post a log and current tune later. I did try to log a start up attempt I don't actually know if I did though.

Ok I tried to upload the data log and current tune. I have no idea if it worked. Also it gives me this message when I try to start a new project; Current configuration serial sighnature "MSII Rev 3.1100"
Controller required serial signature "MS2 Extra serial 310"
Controller reported firmware version "MS2/Extra Release 3.1.0"

What does that mean? Also the First thing is just whatever I select from a drop down box. If I hit "detect" ecu it just closes tunerstudio.
Also is there a way to view all the configuation errors?

p.s. When I did this data log I did have it set to 99/00 miata for ignition with coil on plug.

IIRC jfornachon's ECU was not setup for true (ie sequential) COP. Only wasted spark COP.

On top of that, there is a configuration error, which is why the ECU will not start. Did you try to load a map from somewhere?

Also, when creating a new project, on the second step, you need to select "Microsquirt full" = Disabled and "Microsquirt Module" = Enabled.

THIS IS FOR THE DIYPNP ONLY!!! NOT FOR THE MS2V3-based ECUs!

Ah ok. That makes sense. I didn't get a map from somewhere mainly because I didn't know what I was looking for. I will search for one and try again. Is there a way to change to true coil on plugs? Or is that not necessary for the car?
P.S. Thanks for your help Reverant. I feel like a jerk asking for your help when I didn't purchase this directly from you.

it is certainly not necessary to run COPs in sequential mode, unless you are planning on running big boost (more than 20psi) and/or high RPM operation. Sequential COPs require a small hardware change (some wires added) inside the ECU.

Ok that makes sense. Ok its telling me the configuration error is "controller message: Conflict with boost control pins"
