I finally got my unit running, after a long month... of lots of swear words and long sleepless nights...

I had some issues, maybe someone can steer me in the right direction, i am hoping to have a datalog but it is on my tuning laptop, ill post it tomorrow

First issue, ive tried 3 different ways to control the idle, currently i am running in closed loop, and it does maintain close to my target of 1000rpm, but it fluctuates badly, at times up to 150 up or below the target, and it just sorta does it until i get going. I have attached screenshots of my two close loop settings, maybe someone can make some suggestions, i will add my log when i can get back to my laptop in my garage

Thanks

I've also gotten bad idle droop, when im moving i have yet to have it cut out, but it drops sometimes to about 500rpm before recovering, in parking lots it would cut out completely at times... I really need this solved

I will try to log the 2nd issue tomorrow

Have you calculated the closed and open idle valve duty using the idle valve test mode?

I found mine to be ~30.1 and 60.1.

For the first issue, upgrade to the latest 3.1.1 "mario_b" firmware, it solves a lot of issues re: idle quality. You will need to reduce your P and I values by a lot.

For the second issue, we need a datalog.

The closed duty is 18-20, verified and tested. I haven't checked what the open duty is.

Attached are both my logs which i managed to get tonight

1st log, warmup and drive through various conditions, idle seems to hold fairly steady, it also does demonstrate several times where the idle droops

2nd log, hot start and again, drive through various conditions, idle ran high until i made more changes to the P&I, as well as changed the closed loop idle,

car seems to run very rich during warmup, any way to at least make it not run 12s at cruise during warm-up?

it idles at times very stable, other times not so stable

This thread should definitely be a sticky or in the SUPER Important Megasquirt Threads.

Hey all, I picked up the unit that Kryiian had for sale a while back and have it running, but I am confused on the idle setup. I read this thread and get confused. My car idles at 14afr then the next time I start it it will be at 11afr. It also has a hard time starting and staying running (I need to give it some gas). I drove 40 miles and ran through 1/4 tank of gas so I know I am way too rich and it shows on how the car runns. Other than that I love how easy it was to get the car up and running. Thank you Reverant as this is a unit that you built I am quite pleased with it.

I would love to have someone take a look at my map and a cold start data log that I made. I will do my best to attatch the files. If I fail I will try again.

Thank you in advance for any and all help. I would like to do the changes my self (so I can learn) unless there is way to many to do then if you want to make them feel free.

Have a great day,
Jared

The settings for the MAP sensor are wrong, which explains a lot. With Tunerstudio online and the engine NOT running, go to Tools -> Sensor calibration, select MPX4520 from the list and click burn. You should be getting 95-100 on the fuel load gauge with the engine not running, and 28-33 with the engine warmed up and idling.

Ok. Thank you I will try that after work and get back with the results. How are the AFR and Ignition tables? I am running my rotrex at 5.5 psi and it kicks in at 3500ish rpm. Any sugestions?

Have a great day,
Jared

I just had a look - don't go into boost at all with these tables. They were meant for a naturally aspirated car and not for a boosted miata. I'll send you a new FI map shortly.

Got the ma and installed. Car runs great and idles well. THank yo. The only issue is I am getting some knock at high RPM (close to redline). I have taken a few degrees of timing out, but have not driven the car since doing so.

Have a great day,
Jared
