Also planning some heat management right now. I have sleeving around both oil lines and bought some sleeving for the water lines. I also got a sheet of adhesive backed heat shield I was going to try on the brake lines/Master cylinder.

Also forgot to say this in the last post but big thanks to Oil Filter Service Co. in portland. At one point I probably had 250$ in fittings trying to find a combo that worked. They took all the ones I didn't need back and also helped all they could finding parts and helping me figured out everything I needed.

PS - I've tried the adhesive-backed Thermo-Tec stuff and a warning, the adhesive gets brittle under high heat and stops sticking. I haven't found anything (yet) that'll stay stuck and have had to resort to metal ties to secure heat wraps. YMMV

 

Thanks for the heads up, I will eventually build a heat shield but I need a break from fabricating right now lol. I just want to drive it.

 

I don't know if you've seen the heat shield I built for laz but it takes 5 minutes to make and works super well

How is it attached? And what is it made out of?

 

It's attached to threaded holes in the body and then a nut and bolt to the brake line block. Made out of scrap steel I had laying around with reflective tape on it.

 

Awesome, I have a bunch of scrap aluminum at work I might grab and play with. Does the steering shaft need a heat shield or is it good without one.

 

Props for jumping in to making the manifold and what not but holy cow i was going to comment that it looked like a beaver attacked your piping hahah small gaps are the key for tig welding. it will all come with time !! keep up the work!

 

Oh god trust me I know. The welding was the easy part of this project. Cutting the pipes was by far the hardest.

 

I should be getting a chop saw in the near future, I might grab a flange and some pipes and see how cleanly I can tack together a weld-el manifold like this and send it off to you for final welding.

 

That would be fun. Having my car torn apart in my buddies garage is pushing our friendship lol. But he likes this stuff just as much as me. Would probably only be ~50 for gas and filler.

I also plan on getting a tig next summer when I move back to town. You could come take your own shot at welding it.

 

Ed came over, said I had a misfire. Found a dead coil. Who knows how long its been like that :/ I don't know how I didn't notice it. Anyone local have an extra toyota cop?

 

Got everything installed. Took it for a test drive. It stumbled then started sounding funny. Sounded like a subby, but not in a good way lol. turbofan came by to check it out and suggested a misfire. I pulled the coils and plugs and coil #1 is dead. Here are some pictures of finishing it up.

Pretty sure my ebay valve doesn't work. Got a lot of compressor surge when it ran so I hooked up the integrated CBV on my turbo and it got a lot better. I actually really like the noise it makes. Subtle but definitely a bov noise. I also have a real Greddy in box that I will try out tomorrow. If its too loud then there will be a Greddy for sale again.

i know thats a bad spot to source vacuum/boost for other things, but im not sure if a BOV is as sensitive to fluctuations as a mega squirt. did you try a different source?

I figured a BOV just needs to see a strong vacuum, and signal integrity wasn't an issue. When I sourced the integrated CBV off that source it worked perfectly. I might fiddle with it or just sell it here. Need a BOV?... Lol.

Yes it is lol. Needed to extend some bolt holes and grabbed a mill bit from work. There is a machine shop us engineers can use for personal projects that has a bridgeport and a lathe. I'm getting pretty good on the lathe but I am useless on the bridgeport.

 

Glad to see you found the misfire. I don't think it's been that way for very long, when you drove off from my house last Monday it sounded fine.

Should have more power once you've got all 4 cylinders on board

 

Pretty sure it happened literally 30 seconds into the first test drive. I hit boost and then suddenly it stuttered. I wish I had caught it earlier. Missed the junkyard by like 15 minutes.
