Pretty sure that was a joke. And by pretty sure, I mean without a doubt.
You sure?
Schuyler, source? I read it recently.

The bad parts of what I've read are they heat cycle out before they are near dead, tread splices, high and uneven wear rate.

Then other people saying they're great and last 10k+, I don't think those people are using the tires.

I'm still strongly considering ordering a set, it'd be a stupid waste though because it's getting under 60's at night here already...

The neogens aren't bad, I may just end up patching mine and keeping them through the winter.

All tires heat cycle out before they die.

How long do rs3s last? 595s are almost half the price of rs3s. Z11s are in the middleish.

It was definitely a joke. AFAIK, it came from a 25 hrs of thunderhill thread. Somebody asked him which tires he would be running at the event, and he replied saying Federal RSR. People took it somewhat seriously but questioned him, but he never responded to it...

...then after the race, he was talking about how well the rivals or RS3s were working for them during the race. I don't remember which tire he actually used, but it definitely wasn't Federals.

I see it now. Weird, you'd think he'd at least change thread post #1 after the fact. I've definitely seen several MT.neters name dropping him (obviously, including myself) as a result.

I think it's a fantastic joke, and I'm glad he didn't edit the post.

I think I'm gonna run the rs3s and get neogens this fall.

Once they warmed up they had grip. I was only a second off a guy today on slicks with more power.

I haven't run them on my own cars. I've driven an Evo 9 and a 350z on track that had them and also rode shotgun on track in another Miata that had them and they just have nowhere near the grip and are not as confidence inspiring as say a RS3/Rival/Star Spec. They also seemed to start falling apart regardless of vehicle weight and even with a halfway decent alignment.

I've also seen other people try them out and their initial impression is "hey not bad, they feel pretty good," but it was because they hadn't been on a good 200TW tire before, and all of their opinions quickly changed after getting onto tires like the RS3/Rival/Star Spec soon after. My first thought when I saw them become available to the public was "At this price it's too good to be true," and at least for me it lived up to that assessment.

That being said, this was quite awhile ago so maybe they have changed the tire since then.

Also... you know you wanna... I think after you factor in the cheaper shipping they're pretty close to RS3 cost at Tire Rack...

Aren't those going to last way fewer miles than RS3s?

I got the Neogens with my Dail-In 15x7s 2-3 months back and love them on the street. I have no idea how they would perform and survive under track conditions, but that is what I have NT-01's for.

I have been really happy with dry performance, stickiest street tire I have had on my Miata for daily use. My only complaint is the very deep tread that feels a little squirmy, but that is only compared to the set of 205 NT-01s I have and is still better than any street tire I have used.

Wet performance is awesome! I have been very gentle with my Miata in the rain since the turbo went in. I have had a couple puckering exercises when merging into traffic, even in 4th gear with any water on the road using the old Kuhmo ASXs. The Neogens hook up great in the rain. Great acceleration, great lateral grip and awesome braking. I am sure the deep tread has something to do with it.

My dad has had these on his 99 since this spring and loves them too. They might not be the best out there, but for <$300 they are an awesome bang for the buck option for the street. Keep an eye on discount tire direct and I bet you can get these for much cheaper. When I got them with the wheels it worked out to only $217 for the tires!!!

It is one thing if you are trying to hang the tail out. It's a whole other scenario if you were not trying and there is a ton of traffic on the road!

I've tracked NeoGens for multiple seasons, they hold up great, and can apparently be sold for $50 even after they're hockey pucks.

That being said, they're a joke compared to a simple set of 205 star specs, which aren't quite as grippy as RS3s, but then again it's 225 vs. 205. Star Specs are the easier tire to learn on IMO.

That's good to hear curly. I'll get the neogens and go from there. I loved my star specs the 4 track days I did with them and won't go back to all seasons.

Having a killer monday morning.

First this falls off.

Then someone stops at a light next to me and says my tail light is out...

Then. I kid you not, 5 minutes later I get pulled over by a motorcycle cop to tell me the same thing.

Along with a lecture.

First warning ever though after being pulled over like 8+ times, so thats nice.

To be clear the tail light worked on friday, and somehow stopped working over the weekend.
