Put the grinding, welding and general "im throwing showers of sparks or chips in every direction" operations with a bench or whatever in a single corner. Get 2, or 3 shower curtains, make or buy cheap curtain rods, or run a clothes line from opposing walls a few inches below the ceiling in such a way to form a perimeter around the work area. Hang the curtains, pull them out when you do said filthy tasks, push them up against the wall when your not.

This is a good thing! at least in my opinion. Gives you a chance to seal everything up, insulate, or insulate more/better, run new wiring. Take pics of all the frame work and wiring runs if you ever decide to drywall anything up.

Why need 1.8 calipers? You only need the 1.8 brackets.

I'm trying to hit a "spirited driving event" oct 10th, I think I'll leave the egay pads on the 1.8 rear rotors and do a prop valve/sport brakes later.



This the highest class, for $30 I say it seems fun.

I use a heatgun for stuff like that, tin the pads, get parts close, pound with hot air while poking **** into place. Little pinpoint flux things help lots. I try not to do heat sensitive stuff...

I can't do that with an iron, too many hands required.

So I found something else

2009+ mini cooper JCW models have 280mm rear rotors. They seem to be available cheaper than miata sport rotors. Making them fit might be as easy as changing the offset of the rear bracket ~10mm. If we are already making centering rings...

I never looked at Mini rear rotors. Interesting. 1/2 price rotors could make it worth it.


You asked previously about rear bracket offset. The caliper and rotor remains in the same plane for the 1.6-1.8-sport brakes so no offset is needed. Just fabricate the bracket to so that the one side mounting holes are milled 1/2" of the plate thickness deep. M-tuned used 1" plate and I was going to use the same thickness. Can't really fit more than that. Look at M-tuned bracket pics and it will make sense.


As far as wheel clearance. I ran real tight clearances to my 15" NB wheels (only 1/8") and did not have issues. It does look pretty tight though.

 

Savington said 1/8 is fine in his experience.
