Wow what a complete shitshow. Full on struggle.

Boundary pump showed up. Packaging was muuuch better than the first time.

Start with some rtv on the pump

Install once...forget the o ring.

Clean everything off, install again with the o ring.

Then lay down some more rtv, and put down the mbsp.

And then let **** hit the fan.

Lost the MBSP bolts, spent 15 minutes searching (with rtv on the block) finally found them in the car for some reason.

Installed them. Went to install the pan. Crap pickup. Pull out my pickup, and look it over. Bearing material inside the screen. Try and pick it out. Fail. RTV is drying.

Pull motor out of spare car, drop pay, remove pickup, clean pickup. Install pickup......search for pickup bolts. Finally find them in the bag labeled oil pickup bolts... Install pan. Torque. Put spare motor back into spare shell.

End up with this.

Yep, that was the maiden voyage of this car to MRLS. Did Saturday, then last minute signed up for Sunday. Second lap of third session, coming down the corkscrew I lose power and hear clunk (pic... Which btw Aidan the arrow looks like an upside down *****). Coast off the track and into my spot in the paddock didn't even have to push it.

Pulley bolts sheared. Brian K from Seattle had a complete spare '99 engine in his van and sold me the pulley and belt.

[Utag]gesso[/utag] used his ever-steady hands to drill out and remove the snapped bolts, we reinstalled the new pulley, and I finished the last two sessions of the day and drove it the 1000 miles home.

I promptly ordered the SPM damper the next moment they were in stock.

I more remember the one with my serp belt flying in the air behind my car.

I started with this general shape from the instructions and cut a little at a time and kept test fitting. I didnt need to trim nearly as much as the picture...but it still required some force and bending to get it on. Im happy with it as it still looks like it will provide good protection for everything down there

So with a trimmed timing cover you were able to install it after the belt and damper were installed?

I've trimmed one, left one untrimmed. It looks like the bolts for the timing wheel hits the cover, but I don't think it does. I just carved the semi-circular cutout a little larger on Nial's, let the other one self clearance.

BTW, oil pans are a major PITA, especially MBSP equipped engines. You need the block, pan, MBSP, and pickup tube clean. You need the MBSP, pickup, and oil pan bolts. You need the two half moon seals and pickup tube gasket. You also need enough RTV for 2 revolutions around the pan. It's a LOT of stuff to prepare, clean, and have laid out ready to go.

But don't worry, next time you won't forget anything. Hopefully.

Yeah. I cleaned everything, and thought I had cleaned the pickup. Also thought the MBSP bolts were in my bolt drawer. Neither of those things were true. But its all together. We'll see if it leaks.

Thanks for the info on the cover. I'm trying to get the whole bottom end buttoned up, then shims arrive friday. Lots of grinding and then throw the head on and go.

But well see. Lots of optimism.
