Damn I completely forgot I said I would get the wire colors for you, the two you need from the old maf connector are: red w/ green stripe and solid black.

speaking of, any tips, tricks, and things to look out for? This will be my first time using megasquirt, and also the first new engine I've fired up. I have one of braineak's megasquirt PnP, and he loaded a basemap on for me. I plan on priming the engine with oil, verifying I can get it started, then bringing it to the dyno for break-in and tuning. Will this be an issue for the break-in process if i get it running and immediately shut it down? I don't want to bring it to the tuner and have to pay to diagnose some silly issue, as I'm sure many will come up.

I would just let your tuner know what you are planning on doing. I have never broke in a motor on the dyno but had a tuner come over and help me break my motor in on the street but we are pretty good friends and I only had one water leak that only took a couple minutes to solve. Your tuner will probably let you know what the best route to handle any mechanical problems you may have. Most tuners are easy to work with if you let them know what is going on.

So I'm stuck trying to wire up the Apexi AVCR. Does anyone have the ECU pin-outs, or a wiring diagram for the ECU connectors for a 1990 miata? The diagram I have is not very detailed.

I have those, and unless I'm missing something, the ECU isn't one of the diagrams there?

Everything is done with the exception of the IAT wiring and the Apexi AVCR wiring. I didn't take any pictures, sorry.

Base timing will be the first thing you want to dial in.

Brainy's base maps are pretty good, but there's no way to know if the trigger angle is in the right neighborhood. Car probably won't even catch without adjusting it 5-10*, and then you can fine tune once running.

Having the timing light on when you first turn over will also be a good way to know that MS is doing it's job as well.

Ok I think I figured out the wiring part. I pulled the plugs and the fuel injector wiring, and was able to turn the motor over! This means my math on my adapter plate was correct! I was able to prime the motor with oil as well. As soon as the serial port-usb adapter comes in it's time to fire it up!

OK. I have a couple wiring questions/issues to sort out now.

1. When I dim the dash lights, my gauges dim the opposite "direction"- i.e. as the gauge cluster gets brighter, the leds in the gauges get dimmer. I'm using autometer sport comp w/ their LED replacement bulbs- If I swap the wiring around, will this solve the issue?

2. Should the wideband o2 sensor be getting power from the same power line as the ecu power? When I crank the engine over it turns off currently.

3. The LEDs on my A-pillar gauges (boost & EGT) stay illuminated all the time, I think I must have wired them incorrectly, going to sort that out at a later date.

I got the serial/USB adapter from DIYautotune yesterday, which was the last piece I needed in order to fire the car up. I'm grabbing some fuel after work today. Tomorrow is the day! Cross your fingers!
