Now that I once again have to change the gearbox I might as well get a better clutch

quick summary of my previous clutches
FM level 1 Slipped Only good for a GT2560
FM level 2 Slipped uses the same disc as FM lvl1 and slips almost as much
949racing/Competition Clutch Twin disc Destroys gearboxes enough said

I guess that left me ACT xtreme clutches that Soviet and others here use
This maybe? ZM4-XTG6 - XT/Race Sprung 6 Pad
or this: ZM5-XTG6 - XT/Race Sprung 6 Pad
I have no idea what’s the difference between those two:confused:

Leafy 06-24-2014 08:33 AM

I bet if either of those acts dont slip they too will destroy gearboxes.

as long as it holds better than current FM lvl2

FM lvl2 is rated 353 ft/lb and ACT xtreme is 430 ft/lb

Yeah, but the slip is the only thing saving your tranny most likely.

you are right ‘bout that

I just bought new 6speed with only 44K miles on it. It should last a year with sprung clutch

Sprung 6 Puck has served me well and I'm certainly not easy on my car, "Sprung" is the key, I'll break CV shafts before anything else. The clutches you've linked are NC versions btw.

Really the only unsprung clutch I'd run is a carbon on carbon clutch like the one I run. The carbon friction plates have enough flex that the springs are unneeded.

Bundy seems to have even bigger problems with sprung clutches breaking his 6 speeds than unsprung though.

You could always just turn the boost down, like me. And my pussy 5 speed saver tune.

muoto 06-25-2014 09:23 AM

ZM2-XTG6 it is then. 405 ftlb should be enough

Here in Scandinavia less than a 15psi is considered a N/A :skid:

Honestly why aren't you buying twin-disk?
I only have this clutch because I got it for cheap with a nice flywheel.

Read my thread :) I had twin disc. My low mileage gearbox lasted about a week with that

Sprung clutch is mandatory

Isn’t T5 only rated for 300 lb ft?

I've been thinking something like Getrag 420G (368 lb ft) from M3 bmw but its little bit costly 2000-4000$.

Then there’s a fairly common R154 "truck gearbox" from Toyota Supra/ Soarer/Cresta that lot of my friends use on their 700whp drift cars. That gearbox take 500 lb ft all day long and those boxes goes around 1000-1500$ in here. Even the gear rations are kind of ok compared to my current 6speed: http://www.miata.fi/kuvat/lootatv.gif

hrk 07-09-2014 09:06 AM

I haven't ruled T5 out just yet. Their derivatives have been used in Cosworth Sierras, including 500 hp A-group ones in road racing, the configuration is close and there are quite a few companies modifying them with wider straight cut gears and dog rings.
Companies like G-force claim 500 ftlb torque and the stock transmission is said to weigh only 75 lbs.

soviet 07-09-2014 10:00 AM

Yeah, G-Force claims their upgraded T5 will hold 500ft/lbs in a 3000lb car launching on slicks.

G-Force Transmissions and Long Shifters

Generally, it can be assumed that with the available upgraded mainshaft, the G-Force Street 5-Speed kit will handle roughly 600 hp or 500 ft-lb. of torque in a 3300 lb. vehicle running drag radials at the track with a moderate clutch upgrade.

The Getrag 420G has very nice ratios and I would love to run it. But the weird 3-bolt output flange confuses me.

Can RX7 turbo2 gearbox take 450ft/lbs?
- it's cheap (400-500$ on ebay)
- there's adaptor for it Miata BP/RX7 TII Transmission Adapter Plate - Maverick Motorsports
- gear rations are "kind of ok" www.miata.fi/kuvat/t2ratiomph.gif

I think MT.net should send out coolant block off plates decorated like yours instead of stickers.

It still lacks the colorful rainbow flying off it. I'm working on it. Top priority

Muoto! Just reviewed your build. I realized that you're running Federal's RSR and I'm thinking about getting some. How do you like the tire? Are you running a 205 on a 9" 6UL?

Still love the build.

I did have and run 205@9" 6UL and it was ok. Did have too much power for those tires anyway but for mid 200whp car those are excellent
