Solid first post. I had 4 years of high school autos classes if that counts for anything. You can learn a lot just by digging into something. I suggest doing it yourself if you can turn bolts, and read a torque wrench. I suggest having a friend around to help hold the engine from rotating, that's kinda a pita by yourself.

It was an Ebay one. Can't remember where i got it, but it was a really good price. Maybe on here. But it didn't fit quite like i wanted it, and the ends were to small. Plus my other one worked until i could get the nice good one.

With 2" inlet and outlet flange i would not cram more than 12psi through it (with my turbo anyway).

I don't see why it would be holding you back up to 350 HP. Would one of Dem768's intercoolers be better? Sure. But much more money.

I am looking at his now to compare....I think this is very close to his 350 size one so I feel good about it now! I can't complain for $65 NIB. So ,yeah I think I will stick with this for now.

The one you posted was no where near as big as the new one i just got (dems). His is wayyy thicker. Here's a picture, though it's on the last page.

The end tanks are better designed, and are centered.

that egay cooler is nowhere near the size or quality of a vibrant.
I know because I literally have both sitting in my garage right now.

It will work though. I doubt its good for any more than about 300 or so

Erat, is your new one from Dem the 500 or 350?
18, Thanks for your input. Mine is about the same size as the one Dem is selling as a 350 and looks very well made. My goal is 300 so as long as I am not bottle necked by the IC at that point I am happy. Also, mine has 2.5" input and output so I think it is bigger and better than the one I referenced in this thread.

Based on the core size alone mine is really close to the same size as yours. 2.5 in/out

That's cool to see the inside of the trans, glad to hear it seems to be in good condition! Nice progress!

Good to hear. I've been debating on if I should do it or just let a shop do it. I've done some tear downs on other vehicles before, just never had experience with miata's. I don't have any sort of lift so how would you suggest doing it? just jackstands at all 4 corners? Thanks for the imput!

Also, I was thinking about getting the FM happy meal kit which comes with the stage 1 clutch, flywheel, and parts. Do you recommend getting a lightened flywheel for turbo miata's or just stick to resurfacing the stock flywheel and save money?

I still recommend a friend. I just had mine high up on jack stands. Then had a jack to hold the end of the trans while i wiggled it off it's dowels and input shaft.

My whole theory on lightened flywheels is that they're better to be used on a supercharged or N/A car. While the heavier one is better for the turbo. Some people may agree, some people may not. Plus i don't really like to spend to much money unless i have to. I just got my stock one resurfaced and it worked fine.

Took the car out with the new IC. Weather says it's 50F out. Didn't see intake temps above 90F all day, and cruising temps were around 70F. I can be happy with that.

I do have a whistling noise now though. Like air passing over something and it's making the same sound those deer whistles people used to put on their cars. Can't figure it out.

Edit* i forgot, i had to turn the boost down. For two reasons. 1 i was hitting overboost (200kpa) and 2 i was getting way to much damn wheelspin. Gotta get the dunlops back on. But i think this IC is flowing better making me hit like 14psi or whatever 200kpa is. Before i was 12-13psi. 170kpa(ish)
