I will mess around with closed loop tomorrow (I guess later today lol). Side note: best cordless impact gun ever in the pic below. 1000ft lbs of torque, battery lasts forever, and its durable. So, get one.

Today for some reason I though it was a good day to drive myself crazy, so I installed the 949 Hybrid Motor Mounts. Let me just say....you cannot pay me to do this again. Not going to happen.....just....no. Such a pain in the *** to get everything lined up. I don't have a hoist so I resorted to block of wood and sizzor jack to support the engine. I haven't been this frustrated while working on a car in a very long time. I would rather to another turbo install than do this over again. But its done and thats all that matters.

I started with a train of extensions. And Bella (I think she's smiling for the photo lol)

Old vs New.

Anybody like toast btw?

Finally, 9hrs later, I got this piece of work in there. Granted, I did take about an 1.5hr break.

Annnd the drivers side, not much to see here but whatever.

Tomorrow I'm draining a qt of the Amsoil tranny fluid that I just put in and I'm replacing it with the Amsiol synchromesh stuff. Hopefully it works, not looking forward to a tranny rebuild. Fingers crossed.

So, my car tried to kill me today....

On the positive side, I did get a free fender roll

I was driving down the road at about 30-35mph and my wheel just..... fell off. WTF! I almost runed my Sparco Evo with fecal matter.

Thankfully this didnt happen at a higher rate of speed. I was also close to home so I was able to get my brother to bring a jack to get the spare on. I am not exactly sure why it happened. I may have forgotten to torque down the lug nuts on the wheel but I highly doubt it. I remember going around checking them. Dunno. I have a new wheel on the way. Would be here Wednesday. Wilwoods are still not in yet. Hopefully this week I will have them in my possession.

The motor mounts are awesome btw: There is a lot more NVH below 2k but its not THAT bad. Im sure NVH will get better after I put some miles on them. Shifting feels sooooo much better.

Also, closed loop is the ****. I burned the base settings that I collected from Chirchiban and Aidan and its awesome. I should have switched to CL a long time ago.

With the new closed loop code that started in 1.4.0 there is no reason to dick around with open loop anymore.

Yeah, because tuning open loop is the same as tuning the bias table, and once you've got the bias table tuned it's not hard to tune closed loop so that it does something reasonable and useful.

As for the wheel -- standard studs? Standard lug nuts? Did it sheer a stud, or is that just the aluminum residue from scraping on the wheel? How new was the wheel? New wheels with paint in the lug holes will tend to loosen up until they've gone on/off enough to wear the paint off the cone.

If the nuts backed off and the wheel came off, the studs have probably been overstressed, I would replace them.

Thats what setup mode is for though. Which holds the wastegate closed and acts like closed loop but with open loop control. So its easier to tune than open loop.

If setup mode didn't exist then open loop is worth it, but with setup mode there is no point.

The nuts just backed off. I have another OEM hub I'm going to put on. The studs are trash.

I never put the lug nuts on with an impact but I'm not so sure about the previous owner.

Its not not that big a deal but it just sucks because it's an unneeded expense. The new wheel was 155 shipped and the spare hub I already had. so I'm not freaking out over it.

You didn't hear any strange noises or feel any wobbles in the steering wheel before it came off? I remember one time I forgot to tighten the lugs and it was pretty apparent even at low speeds that something was very wrong.

I drove 20 miles from MRLS thinking I had a flatspotted tire. Turns out my lug nuts were loose

That is exactly what it feels like. I have learned to check them when I get a vibration that wasn't there before. The summer rims on my daily loosen lug nuts for some reason.

Have you counted how many threads are engaged? AIUI, you want at least 6 threads, and OEM studs are short enough that this can get kinda marginal once you start messing with aftermarket rotors, wheels, spacers, etc. I don't recall what mixture of parts you have bolted on right now, but you'll want to make sure that you get at least 6 threads of engagement.

If you want more OEM studs, I have a big pile of them in a box, many are unused (I pull them out and put in ARP extended length ones instead).

Now is the time for ARP studs and open end lug nuts.

That looks good to get the new studs in, but how about getting the old ones out? Unless I'm missing something?

oh. It seemed like they would need a bit more than a hammer but ok. The other issue is that I need the car back in the road asap, and the hub I have with me right now, I don't have Arp wheel studs/ 949 lug nuts or the tool to install them. So I will swap the hub to be the car in the road and do the studs when I have time
