The glamorous life of the chief engineer.
Preface: I have two separate news departments in this building.
Local (WGN 9) have been here for 60 years and are all seasoned pros who just get **** done. They're #1 in the Chicago ratings by a huge margin, and are, by far, the highest-rated, highest-billing independent local TV station in all of human history. Within the Nexstar group, they also out-rate and out-bill our sister stations in both NYC and LA, which also is a first in all of history.
Network (News Nation) have existed for a year and a half, and are trying to compete against CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc., but constantly seem like they've just discovered the existence of television earlier today.
Yesterday, 1pm, NN ops manager: We need to move the camera controller for Banfield from Control 3 to Control 2 by Saturday.
Me, to literally the whole operations group: Ok, is everyone in agreement that Banfield will always be produced in Control 2 from now on?
Everyone, by around 4pm: Yes.
Today, 6:30am: Don't move the camera controller! Banfield is going to be produced in Control 3 today, because of the Congressional hearing!
Me: Ok. we'll run the wires, but not move it yet. Also, I'm just gonna go ahead and do a capital request for another one, because I'm using words here to say that that you're a dipshit who doesn't know how to schedule resources without actually saying it, and even though your resume says that you used to work at CNN, it's now obvious to me that there's a reason why you no longer work at CNN.
Today, News Nation operations manager, 9:15am: So, we're going to need to bring in 11 different camera feeds for the Congressional hearing. We've known about this for a month, but I decided to wait until the day-of to figure it out. Tell me how to route them.
Me: Wow, if only we had known in advance that a Congressional hearing was going to take place tonight, we'd have been able to prepare for it in advance.
Him: (...)
Me: Ok, where are the feeds coming from?
Him: DC.
Me: No, I mean what physical equipment are the signals coming in on? Are they satellite feeds, or Dejeros, or TVUs, or LiveWires, or Makitos, or...?
Him: I don't know.
Me: That... kinda prevents me from giving you an answer.
Him: Here's an email I got from DC.
Me: Ok, judging by this, these are clearly all TVU Grid feeds. You have 18 TVU receivers and 32 framesyncs, and your feed room operators know how to route them.
Him: Ok, so how do we make this happen?
Me: Literally just give this list to the feed room operators and pick a bank of framesyncs for them to route into.
Today, 11:15am, same guy as above: So they've decided to just take the pool feed.
Me: Ok.
Today, 1:30pm, same guy: So I just found out that we are the pool feed. So we have to go back to the original plan.
Me: Ok, so... literally nothing has changed since we first spoke this morning.
Today, 2:35pm, as I happen to be walking past control 3, the production manager: Joe, can you come in here for a sec?
(Literally 30 minutes of ops mgmt and the production folks screaming at each other. Like, actually screaming.)
Me: I gotta get back to master, call me if you need me. (leaves.)
WGN Local crew, this whole time: (Just casually going about their business, not panicking, because they're seasoned professionals who actually know how to plan ahead so that they don't get caught with their dick in their hand on the day-of.)
Today, 5:45pm, as I'm walking out the door, the PM Ops mgr: I think we have everything figured out.
Today, 7pm: I'm watching the feed from home. And, what a ******* surprise. Network is taking the local feed on the national channel. Because someone clearly still had their dick in their hand when the feeds went live.
Summary: Those of you who believe that we in the "mainstream media" are engaged in some kind of nation-wide conspiracy, I hate to tell you this, but we're pretty ******* incompetent. And, to be clear: these are folks who we lured away from CNN and MSNBC with huge bonus packages.

Why should anyone be excited about a traditional-delivery-method vaccine for the same exact spike protein reaction that doesn't work for a strain that is no longer dominate and is barely 50% efficacy for something they don't want/need?
Looks like they are just now working on an omicron strain (been dominate since Dec). same exact reason I never get a flu shot.
Plus it still doesn't: Stop the spread and/or prevent you from getting covid. And our case fatality rate is currently, today, at the lowest it's ever been at 0.25%
Looks like the good ol boys at the FDA have concerns (including risk of myocarditis and pericarditis) with it now too; laughable. Weird how they suddenly have these sort of concerns now there's a product that competes with their cash cow...

The case fatality rate (CFR) is the ratio between confirmed deaths and confirmed cases. Our rolling-average CFR is calculated as the ratio between
the 7-day average number of deaths and the 7-day average number of cases 10 days earlier.
the 7-day average number of deaths and the 7-day average number of cases 10 days earlier.

been over two years and still no smoking gun "plot" to overthrow the government... almost like they knew what date the rally was going to be in advance, denied extra security, and let people inside the building, staged a few photos, used it to vilify their pollical opponents and to justify another impeachment. almost. almost...
I think he's talking about California...
After this January 6th Commission,
--will all the video tapes of that day be released?
--will we find out how many undercover FBI agents were in the building?
--will there be confirmation of how many shots were fired?
--have any of the people who were incarcerated "broken" and admitted that they were there to overtake the government?
--has there been ANY confirmation of ANYTHING said, public or private, that Trump incited unarmed Americans to overtake the capitol? Especially the granny...
Is there any chance that the libs in America can see the reality of the situation, despite the media and the Leftist's best efforts?

but I have learned a few things:
1. no one watched it:
2. Pence was giving orders to the Pentagon. (Hint: Pence is not the President and had no authority to do so)
3. Alec Baldwin killed more people than the J6 protesters.
4. They edited video where Ray Epps was in frame; cut out their undercover agent.
5. Biden said on Jimmy Kimmel for those not watching the stupid hearing, that if the SC doesn't rule the way he prefers there will be a revolution and he will jail his opponents.

NO internal combustion engines are supposed to be sold in California in by 2035 (13 years!), but our aging power grid can't handle our power needs now. And the Greenies just closed TWO reservoirs in Northern California...for the fishes. There's no plan for new energy. There's no plan to upgrade the grid. There's no plan to mitigate the drought conditions. Oh, and there's no plan for the homeless crisis, the border crisis, the drug crisis. Hubris or hypocrisy; take your pick.

CNN and MSNBC both saw big gains in viewership. CNN got 2.61 million total views (daily primetime average for them is 545,000) and MSNBC got 4.16 million (their primetime average is 1 million.)
Fox News was relatively unchanged. They got 2.9 million viewers during the 8-10p block, up from 2.8 million during the same timeslot a week prior.
Victor Davis Hanson musings about current events-

Big point-“But one reason why voters are furious is rarely expressed.
Americans feel that ordinary citizens like themselves who follow the rules are treated more harshly by their own government than are both non-citizens and our own progressive elites.”

Now that the overnight finals are in, the ratings were pretty good, actually. Adding up the ABC, NBC and CBS terrestrial viewership, they totaled 11.8 million viewers. For comparison the (men's) NBA finals on ABC have been running around 11 million.
