You know what's truly amazing to me?
How blatant it is. I mean, where I come from they at least tried harder to hide it. They actually took steps to make it seem legit.

Here/now you can have someone commit murder on live television and they'll be airing how many times Johnny Depp farted in court as breaking news plastered on every television screen.

What's truly amazing to me is that a journalist, and I use that term deliberately as it actually applies in this case, would actually have the ***** (or ovaries) to attempt something like that in the first place.

Back when I was in college, there was a required fourth-year course on Ethics in Journalism. In it, they taught you really complex ideas like "don't make **** up and then falsely attribute it to someone." I checked, and the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication has that course. JOUR 5320/7320: Journalism Ethics and Diversity, 3 credit hours. And it's required. (I'm hoping that, even though they've now glommed "diversity" into it, they still kept the important bits of the "ethics" part.)

So Gabriela Miranda, who graduated from college LAST YEAR should at least be aware of the fact that this kind of thing is frowned upon. But she went ahead and did it anyway. And now her career is over at the ripe old age of 24. Meaning that you & I are now on the hook to pay off her student loans.

(Well, maybe she can find a job doing copy-editing for supermarket coupons. Or ghost-writing autobiographies for convicted child-sex-traffickers who also happen to be wealthy industrialists or politicians...)

This is the sort of bad apple who ruins it for everyone else:

I honestly don't know why you'd be surprised that she did that, I'm not. I'm surprised she got called out but I'm definitely not surprised she did it. Have you been paying attention for the last 7yrs? "Journalists" lie.

I realize that you may not accept or appreciate the distinction here, but there is a significant and meaningful difference between repeating the officially-sanctioned narrative as told by government officials, and just outright fabricating false information and then putting and then attributing it to someone in print.

The reason this matters is that while the Fourth Estate is not meant to be a mouthpiece for government (and, to be fair, some of them sure have been acting like it lately), it is reasonable for a Journalist to accept that which is said by persons in positions of knowledge and authority, who themselves have an explicit obligation to speak the truth to their subjects and to act in the best interests of the People (and, again, they haven't always been doing that lately), as sufficiently trustworthy to be repeated in the press, and / or to be considered when determining the editorial policy of the press with regard to judging what is true and what is false.

Consider the following:

If a soldier receives a lawful order from his commanding officer to go kill somebody, and he does it, then while the action itself may or may not have been morally justified, the soldier doing the actual killing was acting correctly under the standards of conduct which apply to him.

If that same soldier goes off and decides that a certain person needs killing because he has good evidence that they are actively selling children as sex-slaves, and he kills them, then while we might argue that a greater good has been achieved, the fact is that the soldier still violated the standards of conduct and should reasonably expect to find himself on trial for murder. Or, at the very least, dishonorable discharge.

I'm thinking these journalistic scapegoats I mean idiots I mean soldiers are being given orders worded in such a way so as to absolve the giver of any liability/responsibility, and fall by the wayside should they get caught.

Yet again, how could you possibly think that's what they have been doing for the last decade?

They aren't reading the governments script, they're following the Party's and their "causes" script. If they're even following a script on any particular story, more often than not all they seem to be doing is stirring the pot in any way they can. How can you honestly say that you don't know this crap? Your network exists because of it.

Dude, did you watch the X-Files? The one about unexplained phenomena and the extra terrestrial intelligence plot to take over the world, not some **** show. Our good friend Joe is mt.net's version of Fox Mulder. He wants to believe.

That's not an axe. The officer correctly identifies it as a hatchet in his call to his base. I'm going to revoke your Totin' Chip and require you to retake the class.

Returning from a break, Frank Wills finds black tape re-applied to the door between the garage and the stairway of the Watergate. Wills phones the DC metro police.

Photo recreation of finding the tape on the door of the Watergate parking garage.

For you yung'uns, that'd be the exact moment when then-president Nixon's (R) plan to sabotage the 1976 US Presidential election first started to fall apart.

Funny how history repeats itself.

It's almost as though Democrats and Republicans value political power more than truth, the Constitution, and the lives and well-being of American citizens.
