As much to store the car in the winter as to work on it. 4-post 'cause I can move it around and it doesn't take as much height requirement. I can always use jackstands or the jack tray for brake work.

here's my final results:

making the plate is simple.

I used 22g alumin. (pretty thin) got a sheet for $3.99
4 nuts and bolts m6x40
1" hole saw



i didn't take precise measurements, but that shows you what to do. I put a bit grease on each of the three valve cover bolt holes and laid my strip down. this marked the positon of each to drill out. once drilled i measured from each hole i made for the spark plug holes. very simple, something like 1.25" away center to center. can't remember. once done, I laid it down, stuck the cops in and marked the position of the tabs with a pencil. once drilled I stuck the m6 bolts up through the holes and laid it on the valve cover. put the cops over that and and bolt it down. the ruber gasket on each cop squeezes in and the nuts stay good and tight. the end.

 

The plate looks good, but I thought the COPs sat directly on the valve cover so that you needed to drill holes in the plate. I guess this is not true? I haven't test fitted my COPs yet obviously.

EDIT 2: Damn 22 gage aluminum is 0.0253" thin. Wow.

yeah i know its .025" but it's enough. easy to cut and drill and it's very very secure. I mean these things aren't under pressure or anything.

 

Tim the connection inside the COP is a spring that contacts the tip of the plug. I haven't actually measured the depth of it but it feels like the spring is bottomed out when I installed mine against the valve cover. I'm sure there's at least 1/4" of usuable extention of the spring to allow plate mounting the COPs.
