ECUTek for the ECU I believe. Should be a flashable map like most other modern ECU's.

I am not positive on this, one of the 2 companies are working on it.

I am more disappointed that it looks like BBR is using a TSX3071R which I think is just a twin scroll garrett 3071R, while Turbosmart is using the EFR.

*someone is working on certification, so buy with confidence cause some day the kit you buy might become legal*

I've heard that before............So it must be true

Nothing wrong with that.
I'd still rock it.

Which is why I am waiting until the rolling 25 year old omission of emissions in California is enacted.

Kill me.

Or don't live in California.

Or register a business in UT to plate all your cars through.

You do you, boo thang.

I'll just be sitting over here without inspection, emission, or any of that stuff, just paying $40/yr for a plate for my car.

I looked back and it is indeed FM who is planning on putting it through CARB. Out of the 3 companies building turbo setup's for the ND, so far this is the only one who has mentioned anything about getting CARB. So if I lived in Cali it probably has the best bet of future legality as of right now.

As for tuning, I have been following this whole CARB thing for the ND pretty closely. As eventually I will probably get into makeing ND setup's and if a decent ECU scheme has been figured out that I might even consider going for CARB myself. Right now both FM and Edlebrock are working on CARB legal FI systems for the ND. So I" am betting some sort of flashable ecu tune will be done for CARB.

But how long of a wait is the TSE kit?

You would think the CX9 2.5 turbo would be a slam dunk piece of cake mazdaspeed miata.

Yeah... It would be pretty sick as an MS3 reboot as well... except awd. The MS6 was a bizarre kind of project.

The MS3 would be a pretty awesome hedge because of how the market is getting super amped up about hot hatches.

You'd need to do a lot of retuning. We have that motor in our CX-9 and it's great for a 7-passenger SUV with an auto, but it's optimized for low-end torque and really doesn't fit the character of a sports car.

Also, you'd have thought the Mazdaspeed 3 motor would have been a slam dunk for a mazdaspeed NC, but apparently not.

High pressure fuel pump through the firewall was the stopping block there.

Why not the BPD in the NA? Or even the BP26?

Here's the CX-9 motor:

The turbo's mounted backwards for longitudinal use.

You mean transverse use, but yes. In the big scheme of engineering, not super difficult to reorient it, particularly with the space in that area of the Miata.

Also, retuning really wouldn't be that difficult. Fit a larger turbo, retune it.

Take what was learned on the 2.5 and adapt it to the 2.0

Just do SOMETHING.

But guess what? Probably won't happen. I'm sure they think "oh, you want a turbo ND? Go buy that cheeky italian version, you know, the one ugly enough to scare a train off the tracks."

I currently work right between a Mazda dealership and a Fiat dealership, and walk by both cars every day. That fiat is ******* ugly.

Did it work?

It is ugly. So ugly it's almost cute. Ugly.

I meant that it was backwards from the standpoint of using it for a longitudinal engine, but yes.

It's certainly possible to flip the turbo, but that's a lot of parts to redesign. Manifold, brackets, hoses, heat shields, etc.

Journalists would whine if they put the plastic dress cover on the ND, and without it they'd whine about the top of the engine being ugly. So add in a new aluminum valve cover and reworking a lot of the stuff that's just slapped on top right now.

Retuning the motor for the ND probably means new cams at a minimum. Lots of emissions testing, plus a new transmission that'll take the torque.

That's a lot of R&D cost to recoup on a few thousand cars at a $5K premium. If they wanted a faster one, they'd probably do better just to put a NA 2.5 in it.
