miataturbo.net-like debauchery thread (about the ND or something)
Obviously a boutique builder shooting for maximum swag points is going to be expensive.
That being said, 200 whp out of the 1.4 is certainly achievable, and has been done.
I am aware that I may own a unicorn, but my experience with the engine has been that, while it isn't mind blowing by any stretch, it doesn't "suck".
If I am in a position to buy a new one in the next few years, I would buy a 124 Abarth, purchase maxcare and some 6ULs, and enjoy a decent dual purpose car that I only have to worry about purchasing preventative maintenance and consumables for.
Got the ND back, basically what the dealership told me is that Mazda is pretty good about covering warranties with I/H/E+tune. They MAYBE will cover a warranty with a turbo depending who did the tune and install and the reasons behind the transmission failure. The first batch of BBR turbo kits are about to arrive in the US according to BBR so in the meanwhile I'll sit back and watch all while Flyin' Miata works on an emissions legal kit.
Just hit 15000 today going to work, transmission still going strong. Knocking on wood so hard right now.
So, do we know how much "Stronger" the new transmissions are? Or are they just "fixed" to where they don't explode on stock power?

Career may be taking me back to good ol' cali-emissions lands :c
The dealer says they haven't had any of the newer transmission cars come in yet, there's supposedly one guy who's blown up a fixed trans but I haven't found any posts to that event yet, the turbo manufacturers are keeping quiet right now, bbr claimed to me in an email they haven't suffered any transmission issues on their test cars (which should be taken with a grain of salt because at the end of the day they need to make a sale) and I know a guy who's getting a turbo who daily drives his car so I'm going to watch what challenges he faces.

The dealer guy texted me on Friday that no damage to the evap system was found, so that is cool. I still highly doubt that story about it being the problem.
They are refusing to order a new transmission until the guy has any problem with it. They have had it for over two weeks now.
I almost exclusively use the car for long-distance road trips, so I will be a VERY unhappy camper if it breaks on me out in the middle of nowhere in NM. I can go hours without cell signal sometimes.

Well geez man, if you were gonna use a car for long trips why didn't you just buy a new car and leave it stock so it'd be reliable?
Oh wait....

Failure pics of the ND with the revised trans will be coming up soon, too busy with work! Rough plan over here is to attempt retrofitting a 370z trans. Last time I checked, transmission were failing left and right within the Global Cup series. The upgraded gears are supposed to be better along with the studs but quite pricey.
Background of the car for those interested as followed.

- GC Clutch & Lightweight Flywheel Combo

Well, the dealer is refusing to do anything about my transmission. They say they drove it hard for 100 miles and couldn't replicate the issue. So I am going to pick it up Friday. I have never had an issue with a new car before, so can I just take it to another dealer and see if they will replace it? I want to mod the thing, but I don't want to with a questionable transmission.
I wouldn't mod it (unless you're willing to give up your powertrain warranty). Subaru just denied my claim on the 2nd gear synchro issue because it "had been previously tuned."
All the modern ECUs have "counters" so even if you flash back to stock, they can see it has been flashed.
That's why I'm taking the BRZ back to stock ASAP and trading it on something else.

This is so damn frustrating. Everyone else seems to walk in and the dealers are happy to replace the transmission. This thing gets some great gains up top, where it is needed, with headers and a tune, but I can't do **** until I get a new transmission.
Same here, my dealership had no idea what i was talking about and said until i have issues with it they will not do anything for me..You would think that the dealerships would be educated on issues with cars they've sold.
This is basically my local dealership. The gave me weird looks when I said I was not buying a ND until they had a good blue color and the transmission issue was fixed for good. They had no clue what the transmission issue and then pressured me into buying an overpriced ND.

Same here. They may have been playing dumb. Honestly, If I buy one, I'll probably want to turbo it immediately. I am waiting for a decent, relatively inexpensive transmission upgrade for it. I keep telling myself that I would be good keeping it NA and having 200whp if that were available, but I know I am just lying to myself. I also would make every effort not to turn it into an overboosted tin-can-bucket-o-**** like my car.
