Off topic, but, the BRZ really wakes up with a header swap. ~190WHP on pump gas and easily 200WHP on E85 puts the power to weight ratio close to an AP1 S2000. In this configuration they lose the torque dip which really helps the midrange.
I've only driven with header and tune. I thought it had great torque, but I daily drive a stock NA.
Yeah, I've driven a bunch of them. Stock, stock w/intake and catback, stock with some exhaust and Megan coils on RS3s, and one tuned with nameless header on MCS coils among others. Yes the nameless header with tune on MCS was a whole lot better, but still felt weak compared to my stock AP2. The ND on Corksport coils and sways with an axleback was wayyyyyyyyyy more fun on the street than any of those others.
Fuuuuuucccckkkkk Flyin Miata. I bought their full Powerlite brake kit because they said it would fit 15's. It doesn't fit my 15x8 Enkei PF01's OR my 15x9 Konig Dial-In's. Also, they warn the parking brake will be weak, but when I can move the car by just torquing the lug nuts, it is beyond weak. I like the braking feel with the Ferodo DS2500's I put in, but I really feel like I wasted my money. That also now means I will be doing 2600+ miles round trip, plus the Laguna Seca laps on my stock tires that already have 13k on them. Guess I will go slow.
That would be possible if I wasn't already in $1250+ for the brake kit and pads...
I also wouldn't have any room to take them home after MMRLS. The tires still have a safe amount of tread left. Plus, I don't have suspension to take advantage of more grip yet, anyways.
This will also be an ok A-B test, because I ran the stock tires with no LSD at Hallett, but now I have added that. It will be interesting to feel the difference in grip now.
Just a data point, drove my fist automatic Miata last weekend in Santa Fe. It was a 2016 GT with paddles. Would make a fun daily or be perfectly ok in the Mountains. Better than expected.
My ND did pretty well at MRLS. The stock tires are just worthless after they get hot. I still had great fun. The car needs real seats and harnesses, though. My left tricep and left knee were beat to hell from slamming into the door panel. I had 3 off-track excursions, but nothing was harmed except for the alignment. The addition of the stock LSD was a great help. It can pull out of the turns with throttle now, instead of just spinning a tire. The brakes felt great, although I have developed a very annoying squeal at low speeds.
I am going to test drive a supercharged 2013 PRHT next week. I absolutely love the ND, but I can't push it when I am still paying it off. The idea is that the 2013 PRHT will be a DD, which can't possibly go on track because it can't take a roll bar and that will free up my 01 to become a track car. The #1 problem with DDing miatas, in my experience, is the lack of power and road/wind noise. This one is supercharged and the PRHT is quieter and more secure than a soft top. That means I will have to sell my '16, though, after just dumping 5k of parts into it, and I hate selling cars. No one wants to drive or fly to NM to check out a car.
Well, ok, 3 black flags. Two were spins that stayed on the surface. Only the last one in the last session of the last day went into the dirt. A better driver could have caught it, but I couldn't. I guess I am comparing "pushing" it to what the car is capable of, not me.
That is a good sign for engine and drivetrain longevity on these. Although the trans was updated.

I was a little disappointed that they used the Cup transmission (which I would say is upgraded, not updated) for testing. Majority of their customers are not going to go out upgrade to a cup car transmission. If they wanted to prove that their trans cooler helped transmission life, they could have kept a stock one in it and a Cup trans as a spare.
Yeah, FM's test should have the disclaimer of a $3000+ upgraded transmission as the basis. If Goodwin is to be believed, they kept the transmission and rear diff temps to acceptable levels with just air scoops. He also engaged in a little trash talk on his forum saying that he was driving his car way harder too. I still might go with the FM oil cooler, though. I don't want to pay $700 for a Chinese mystery metal Mishimoto oil cooler.
I should be selling my NB in two weeks and that will give me the money to order the XIDA ACE's!
A guy selling OEM 2" steering wheel spacers for all Miatas just popped up on m.net too. I think I will get one. I have t-rex arms and I have to sit very close to be in a comfortable steering position. With the ND's seats being on an incline, I should be able to sit a click or two further back, gain some headroom, and have my arms be more comfortable. https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=654504
FWIW, we sold our AVO turbo kit because we weren't confident of the Gen2 box's ability to cope with the torque. We have heard reports of two separate gen 2 failures with F/I ND's.
We are kicking around the idea of investing in another ND to turn into a pure track rat running the Sadev box and an AVO kit next year. We would put more aggressive aero on it, strip interior, race seats, etc.
Whew, an $18.6k transmission is a lot for track day car! I first noticed that in GRM's VIR lap battle earlier this year. If you guys do the track day ND, make it what the Cup Car could be. Wide tires, power, real aero... I hope you guys do it.
I also noticed that 3.45 final gear. I assume the current Cup Cars are running the street-spec 2.9's? I know the 3.45 comes from the 124's, so that is plug and play. I am interested to see what gear ratios the Sadev has too.

Can you shed some light on this upgraded transmission? I guess I haven't paid enough attention to know what's up with it or heard of it.
