Sorry, but the performance isn't anymore impressive than their Toyota Corolla 2 door that everyone seems to jizz in their pants over.

Here's a chat conversation my friend had with Toyota:

oh what the eff ever. The car is neat, and it will be fun to drive and isn't horrible looking.

of course the stealer will mark it up if they have a line of customers for it just cause its new.

give it a year or two, they will settle down, then you can actually find a non-ripoff deal on one

 

Should I be more impressed with this car than I am? The major flaws are the lack of amber adjustment, pathetic engine output, and its ugly as sin. I am impressed with the price though.

 

Is it overhyped? Yes.

But compare it with the NC and I'd take this over the nc for sure

What strikes me about the car is that it reminds me of what the miata was when it came out. While it is not an epic sports car with the greatest of performance features, it helps bring RWD and driving back onto the scene (even if it has to be under the name of scion). Sports cars seem to be dwindling from the market by most manufacturers, particularly simplistic RWD ones, so maybe this will help revitalize it to not be as much of a niche market for driving oriented people like us.

At the listed price I think it is a great thing, but I lose a lot of that thinking when I see it will be marked up 35% by dealers. That gets rid of a lot of the car's appeal. Needs to stay cheap to be successful in its current trim to me.

 

I'd buy one (not new) when the price drops to reasonable levels. That's saying something, because I hate the whole subaru "love" ad campaign enough to kill people for it.

 

If the STI version is closer to 2500lbs and 250rwhp, then I think it'll be worth it.

Sucks to hear about the ill fitting body panels and tail light issues, but I guess that's just another reason to give it a year or two in production before buying one.

Overall I think it looks good and with a sure as ---- aftermarket that's going to blow up, it can be customized.

I think this car is going to get the initial crowd that runs out and buys them, as well as the enthusiast that get ahold of them to make them better.

I saw one today. Smaller than like 99% of all new cars! Seiously tiny for a modern car. Thats good

 

Its smaller than most cars in its class
Its lighter than most cars in its class
Its rear wheel drive
It costs a reasonable amount (before markups which will pass)

pro tip: it will never be a collectors item because they will sell a bazillion of them x 3 makes.

 

it will be a miata alternative. relatively cheap, common, and fun.

at least that's my prediction right now
