The Better Bilstein Ebay Coilover Thread

How is everyone running 7 or 8 inch springs for these setups? I have mine built using 7" springs and my sleeves screwed all the way down and the car looks like it is not much lower than stock...could this be the sleeves i am using?
I am not super pissed about it as the car rides well but i would like to get it a little lower.
Also, i have seen comments in this thread about rebuilding these shocks, does anyone have further info on this? I would love to freshen my 130k mile shocks up a bit.

Even 6" springs won't let you get low enough on some NA's depending on the combo of parts used.
Bilstein and savy diy'ers such as myself cut new circlip groves lower on the shock. Other option is to get sleeves that have a deep circlip pocket but there are none that have that anywhere close to the 1.5" that's needed.

While I believe several of you are not as low as you wish to be, Your comments are not useful without front and rear pinch weld measurements and pictures of your installed setups.
Please don't give fender height measurements because many don't have virgin fenders.
I refuse to believe you are at or near stock ride height without something badly wrong.
Actual stock height picture for reference:

I agree with Bronson M. To be lower on my 8 or 7 inch springs front and rear i changed snap - ring position about 40 mm lower than the stock bilstein has. Then it requires to adjust 1mm preload and it is enough.
With this combination car is lower on the rear about 10 - 15 mm ( for me it is enough). Front i had to adjust to rear axle. Stock geometry allows to be lower not more than 15 mm to do not lose handling.
I do not have car picture at this moment but i will post it later how it looks.

^that picture shows you could be using 2 inch longer springs and achieve the same ride height with less chance of coil binding, unless that is not the installed configuration. It also demonstrates no machining was necessary if that is your actual set of shocks, Lukas.
Also, the double collar perch takes up more space than a locking single. The threaded inner collar section could be inverted if necessary to put the unthreaded section at the top. I can't see what tophat arrangement you are implementing to comment on that, but it is important to ride height also.

You can absolutely get lower than stock with 7" springs and no circlip relocation. 8" springs, not likely.
Will you be able to hit 949's target ride heights with 7" springs with stock circlip location? Depends on your car. Possibly not.
Personally i run 6" springs and relocated circlip. I can get my car to just about stock height, or i can make Riceland owners jelly for mad stants to make her dants. Coil bind has never been an issue.

Well I think I have done enough reading here and on clubroadster, I have made a list of the parts that I plan on ordering for my 92 miata. My plans for this setup is mostly for street/ spirited runs and maybe autox, if anyone has any feedback for this setup I would appreciate it. If there's any more info needed please let me know! Thanks!

my pinch welds are in the 6.xx" range, my car is an NB, but i have probably 1.5" of gap between fender and tire. honestly i kind of hate how it looks but i was able to hit the 949 alignment specs for dual duty and i had the car on track last weekend and it felt good so i may just say screw it and keep it as is, more suspension travel is never a bad thing, especially on a bumpy track.

To be honest it required machine process to change snap – ring position due to 8 inch spring.
I took for You photo of my top hats. There is stock NB top hats with aluminium isolator instead of polyurethane. I was curious to try alu instead polyurethane to recognize if it causing noise issues.

That "isolator" adds ride height by acting as a spacer. All that is required is a compressable thin rubber piece to keep it from rattling. I don't see hard aluminum keeping it from rattling.

Here's my ride height with 450/300 7 inch QA1 springs, Maruha Top Hats, and 4" Sleeves, Hard S Bilsteins, circlip in the stock location. Front Coilovers have 5 threads to the bottom, Rears are 8 threads to the bottom of the car. Hunting down a tape measure so I can confirm my ride height, I am guessing it to be around 4.5" front and 4.75" rear.
Ride is great, just enough body roll to be playful yet daily drivable, and so far I don't really scrape on anything around Tampa. Will find my tape measure and update this post with exact measurements

only one i have at the moment, that is before i put them on and realized i needed to crank the sleeve all the way down.
EDIT: Just found this photo from before i swapped the springs, my sleeves have like a half inch blank spot at the bottom.I wonder if i could just flip the sleeves upside down?

Is there anything between the top of the spring and the tophat? Hard to tell in that picture.
