The car is placed at SEMA
The car was dropped off at the SEMA show Saturday afternoon, and has a nice spot in the North Hall Lobby, right by the entrance. There were some crazy cars waiting for placement including a dual engine quad supercharger hot rod and Bruce Jenner's Lamborghini race car. Fun stuff.

SEMA cars
SEMA brings out the crazy. They have just about the best of every genre; but then there are cars for every genre that have been taken just a little too far. In other words, these cars don't stand out necessarily at the show, but are gawdawful when driving by themselves. I swear there are a couple of SEMA cars that just come back every year with one more piece of bling on the car. And then there are trucks and perfectly restored GT350's like these that restore your faith in humanity.

orange louvers
I added some of the orange wrap material under the kick plate for color.
The VIN plate turned out especially nice. It includes the make, model, weight, and who the name of the person for whom the car was made. I think we'll make them slightly smaller and install them right in front of the shifter for the production models.

I feel like the transmission tunnel needs something to break it up. The shifter looks so lonely there.
Catfish doesn't have a heater, does it? A set of sliders for the heater controls down there would look great. Maybe a slightly larger square bracket bolting down the shifter boot too, so it doesn't look like its floating.

Although it hasn't been discussed here, we already have a "waterfall" designed that connects the dash and the tunnel, and would allow room for gauges, a radio, a 7" tablet for "torque" gauges, etceteras.
Heat--anything from the Miata could conceivably be grafted onto the Catfish, but I'm not gonna do it. The smart thing to do (IMO) is seat heaters and/or what other Barchetta drivers do; plug-in vests or jackets. With your lower regions protected, an electric jacket (snowmobile-style) will keep you as warm as you'd like.
I had many conversations at SEMA about the hardest thing about making the Catfish--saying "NO".

I know yours are weatherproof, but have you seen the site that makes custom switches? A person designing a car could have some fun with them.

A few more SEMA pictures
I'll have over 100 pictures of the SEMA show up on my site probably tomorrow. Here are a few Miata/Catfish centric pictures.
Mazda designer Derek Jenkins hopped in the car, as did Bill Cardell of Flyin' Miata. Brian Goodwin (not pictured, unfortunately) recognized the familiar feel of the Miata in the reach to the pedals, wheel and shifter.
We also had Steve Stillen stop by--didn't talk to him--and Gerald Weiger who is the founder and designer of the Vector supercar. He was complimentary of the design, and asked about molding and design methods for the bodywork.
In all, it was a successful show with a few more orders in hand, and a few more promised.

Back from overseas
Hi guys,
It's been a busy December and I just got back from meeting with my long-time Tawan vendors. I've been buying parts for motorcycles from them for over 20 years, and ignoring the stuff they send to Italy and Japan that's then packaged into brand-name boxes that you'd all recognize. GOOD names...
Long story short, I'll have some new parts to show for the car that have obvious applications for Miatas, and turbos in particular.
On top of all this, I'm midway through my SB100 licensing for the car. Wish me luck!
