Forged pistons won't stand to det much better than OEM, especially if you are pushing harder. They suck for a daily driver, as they have to fit looser and will knock on starts and stuff.
If you aren't at OEM piston melting levels, you don't need forged pistons IMO. Piston melting level is way past drivetrain explodey levels, so why bother?

Was just searching google for something, and noticed someone said the 4w came in the mazda speeds?
The guy handed me a bracket with a solenoid and a black box with "boost control" or something to that effect written on it, all eom, not aftermarket stuff. I told him it couldnt belong to this motor as only 04-05 got boost, he said it came with it so...
Do I have a mazdaspeed motor?

they CAN take det much more than OEM, and still stay intact. a "det cushion" of sorts for when you run that extra degree of timing or do something mildly stupid when tuning, or run it really hard at the track
the myth is that they are pretty much det-proof, which is false.
Also it all depends on how you build. There's built engines with forged pistons running 60-90k no problem, and there's ones that are so loose they eat the bores within 10k.
There's a lot to this. Sean (IMHO) is just starting to mess with it and I think he's finally realizing there might be more to it than building an engine "in an afternoon"
Not trying to be mean, but that's the truth.

not seeing wisecos for 99+ either, or do i have the dumbs? Im getting a little ahead here, but what are the mt.net sanctioned piston choices?
all 1.8 94-05 pistons will fit
with pump gas and track time, you should be looking at 8.6cr
there's a ton of choices, and there's a ton of opinions
supertech seems to be popular, but again, there's a ton of choices

Don't supertechs crack unless you hand modify them?
I never plan to use forged pistons, so I don't read into them much. Seems way more trouble than it's worth to me.

just trying to live up to my thread tittle and be a tight ***
It was just a goal
ive done 4 cylinder rebuilds in an afternoon, but those were for customers who werent going to pay for super ---- cleaning and painting, and didnt have to run 10 different places because of lack of preparedness and unforeseen events. But yea, this one is going to definitely get more attention, and Im going to take my time because I can now.

8.6cr is for sissys. Why the **** does supertech not make a 10:1. Sad face.

OEM pistons will die with a little bit of det. Forged will withstand tuning mistakes.
