From what I've read, most people were seeing detonation on an up-shift at high RPM where they were on throttle, off throttle (shift), on throttle briefly, then lift again. Apparently the new transient timing MAP is setup to over 10,000 rpm to be safe. Its already slated for the 2014 cars, its probably just a legal matter of when it will become a TSB for 2013's. The note at the end of the posted TSB is going to make it hard for some dealer to bite because I can see them saying, "well you were driving your car too hard, sorry."

I am trying to find a specific citation but the problem appears to be that the transient ignition retard is enabled, but the table stops at 5,000 RPM and is zeroed out above 4,000 RPM.

"The new software just moves the deactivation point up to 10,000 RPM and fills in table values above 5600 rpm."

Midtenn - Where have you seen confirmation that the 2014 models will have this software update?

More pictures of the direct injectors.

No confirmation, I believe it was speculation given that the information from Toyota South Africa was already available on Toyota's international database. Production on 2014's hasn't started (starts in September I think), so you'd have to assume any updates to the software would be installed on any new production.

And after having stock turbo-charged cars blow engines, you'd have to assume that Subaru would have figured out - in the following DECADE - how to set up a factory tune that didn't detonate in a low horsepower, low torque normally aspirated car.

You would have been wrong, apparently.

[Acknowledged: this is somewhat different circumstance and direct injection with port injection in a flat-four is new to Subaru and Toyota.]

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the engine management 100% Toyota? That's what people made it sound like anyway.

I believe its most similar to the subaru diesels. But thats info from people who've been unsuccessful at cracking it.

Now that you write that, I can't find anything that specifies who is supposed to be behind it. Subaru is doing all of the manufacturing, as far as I understand, but the direct+port injection system was derived from a Toyota setup.

My understanding is that Toyota was responsible for the direct injection system part of the ECU and Subaru was responsible for the rest. That could be why the direction injection system wasn't initially available in most of the Subaru based tuning softwares (don't know if it now either).

I can neither confirm nor deny this unsubstantiated allegation at this time.

Nor can I. I could be pure internet speculation. I just remember reading some earlier threads on tuning and remember seeing someone mentioning the DI and Std. injection systems were separate.

Arrow Innovate / Sprintex Supercharger Setup

Innovate non-intercooled, twin-screw supercharger setup on an "otherwise stock" car, run on California petrol-flavored water (i.e. 91 AKI). As far as I can tell, "otherwise stock" means no ECU tuning. I imagine with a reflash, aftermarket header, and even 93 AKI fuel you would see an improvement in the overall curve and fix that drop between 4k and 5k RPM on the SC'd graph.

Innovate page. "Tuner kit" (without ECU programming) is $3,195

FINALLY they put out a dyno plot.

Not bad. I can't believe there isn't any tuning whatsoever, that sounds outright dangerous, but either way that's a heatlhy bump in power assuming it runs good/safe.

On some corn and with proper tuning it would probably be closer to 230whp if not more.

I'd daily drive the heck outa something like that.

"Tuner" indicates that this system does not include any ECU re-flashing tools or calibration file. You will need to consult a highly experienced EcuTek tuner prior to installing the system. Failure to do so will result in engine failure.
So basically "here you go, complete kit............but if you blow it up its your fault so get it tuned"

You're looking at another 500-600 for tuning if I remember correctly.

Doesn't look like intercooling would be too difficult with a setup like that assuming there is hood clearance.

Looks like fun.

The "Tuner" kit is for people who want to have their own custom tune made. The "Complete" kit is another $500 and comes with a ECUtec re-flash (cable and license)

"Stage 2" is already released in some country's through Sprintex and Cusco with an intercooler. Stage 1 can be upgraded with an A2W intercooler down the road. They are still "testing" the Stage 2 kits from what is being said.

The funniest thing I've seen is people bitching because they dyno posted isn't done on 92 or 93 or with "x" mods already done and that they weren't going to buy a kit until those numbers were posted. This is after bitching for 6 months about having no numbers.

You would think people would applaud them for using the lowest common denominator to market their kit so that you could be sure they were not trying to overinflate the numbers. Most companies optimize everything and publish those numbers and then everyone complains that it is a misrepresentation of what just that kit will give you.
