You would think people would applaud them for using the lowest common denominator to market their kit so that you could be sure they were not trying to overinflate the numbers. Most companies optimize everything and publish those numbers and then everyone complains that it is a misrepresentation of what just that kit will give you.
That drove people insane.
I look forward to hearing more about the kit, but I am thinking that would be a perfect compliment to a daily driver that sees some occassional track time - if the cooling can be kept in check. Apparently, the cars run pretty hot oil temps from the factory.
The primary downside for me would be easily voiding the factory warranty. A major point of buying a new car like that - for me - would be the warranty, especially in light of the possible direct injector seal issues, factory tune producing knock, etc.
I would pay a premium for that same kit with a TRD badge that maintained the warranty.

Some random pics of the build:
Before realizing they'd have time to add an intercooler:
Quick-change differential cage

GT86 rally car built by my friends at Nameless Performance. EFR7062. Remote reservoir dampers, all the goodies you'd expect in a car built for stage rally. Sounds like the ******* devil. There will be a feature on Top Gear USA sometime in the near future.

As for the shirts, they look like Toyota factory mechanic shirts from the early to mid 2000s.

Knocking multiple seconds off a lap record in a barely prepped car is pretty impressive.

It definitely seems like the cars have a lot of potential in the hands of a quick driver. As far as I know, Jon Miller has put his TT action on the back burner and is running the Pirelli World Challenge with Shea Racing, so I am glad to see someone else picking up the proverbial baton.

NASA results for that weekend indicate the SM lap record was set at a 1:49.172.
So Austin was almost 3.5 seconds under the SM lap record on the same weekend. The car is almost full weight, still has all the power features and creature comforts.
See Jon Miller, Emilio, and Efini's discussion up above.

I test drove a BRZ with an AVO turbo.
I adored the steering.
Interior and seats were surpisingly nice.
But was underwhelmed by the turbo.
AVO claim the stock motor can only go to 8 psi and be dead reliable.
And then they choose some crappy Mitsu turbo that is "good for 380 whp" and only makes 5 psi by 3500 RPM. WTF? It's like the stupid MSM turbo. (See below) Why not choose a turbo that's good for 10 psi, and makes 8 psi by 3000 RPM? My 2560 makes 15 psi at the top and 8 psi by 2650 RPM. Sheesh.
My conclusion is the car needs at least 220 tq and 250 hp to be truly fun.
