Yeah I know, it just makes me very nervous every time I see that someone else has blown up. I've always had pretty poor luck with cars, so if anybody on the street is going to blow up it will be me, so I have to be sure I go all out and build for absolute reliability. I can sacrifice power for longevity. Maybe I will just rebuild, go with BEGi S2 or equivalent and be sure to use safety wire before I even install it, and go gasketless and have both manifold and turbo machined as flat as possible. Run the 2560 at maybe 12-14psi with a safe tune on the MS and hope for the best.

LS1 Miata would still be something I would absolutely love to do in the future. All of this is still several years out, so I shouldn't even talk about plans that far out. For now it will have to be slow and ugly.

double post ftl.

i hate it when people generalize a problem like that.
okay, so stay n/a like emilio and have the t-body plate bolts get loose and sucked into the motor ruining motor after motor. so that's gonna happen to all the n/a cars. just like all turbo motors are gonna suffer the same fate as savington's right? built n/a or ls1 i will still demolish you on the track!

more like "never." One lap at the track is as much drama as a street car sees in a month.

I'd say never, but there's been a rash of blown engines lately and not all of them were track cars. Brain's on his what, 4th engine now? It's a miracle mine hasn't popped yet.

Well ima have to disagree there koto it seems the latest wave of failures, is do to our overreliance on electronic gizmos. In otherwords we got a awesome wave of technology and forgot our old tunning adages, and actualy pushed some stuff alittle bit, and geus what it gave. Save is one of the few that realy stepped up and ran his **** supper hard. And i salute him for it, he just got caught by some bad luck.

It is really cool to see a community rally around a car/driver/team. I was really sorry to see Andrew have to pack it up. We needed another bullet in the Mazda gun to take on JC's 295 on all 4 corner shod S2k. Andrew - the car and your performance this week were really impressive. You've built a car in a short period of time to do what it took my car 2 years to accomplish. My hat's off you to. I ended up missing top step on the podium by less than half a tenth. (the S2k ran a high 2:45.4 and I ran a 2:45.5)

You don't expect everyone that doesn't blow his motor to post about it very month, right? This is MT.net, no wonder people poop their engine very now and then. Either from a bad tune, overheat, etc.

FWIFW, The RingMazda.com runs a T25 at 0.8bar (12psi?) with a 5th inj bandaid, on a OEM/unopened block with over around 150k, on the Nürburgring, flat out, in about 8mins, for well over a year now. Now THAT is some sturdy engine.

I'm not going to keep re-wording my previous statement and clutter up Sav's thread, you two win. No one's blown their engine lately.

Losing part of a spark plug is a horrendous way to lose a motor. A $1.50 part that's really never supposed to fail. Whether that failure was due to the stress of racing or if it would have failed idling while stuck in traffic would be interesting to know. Bad plug or some other problem that killed it?

Matt, Congrats. That's huge. Good to have both you and Andrew out there getting it done. Is there more information about the individual cars in the competition anywhere? I'd love to see what the other cars in your class were like.

Default surface gap spark plug info?

Damn, sorry to hear about your bad luck Andrew.

Has anyone on here used those type of plugs before?

I spent some time searching for info on these plugs and it seems they are common on boating engines.

Bill, do you have any links to info/discussions of these plugs and practical applications for us? Would the typical COP setup be sufficient to fire them?

tia,
Mike

you are talking about driver here, not the machine. not a correct argument.
