Upper downpipes are here, NB lowers due here next week. There will be a delay on NA uppers, so NA customers will have the option of taking an NB lower and building a custom test pipe or cat pipe to get them on the road quicker (any muffler shop can do this).

What is the status on the NA down pipes?

NA pipes are due here on/around the 19th of this month. Will ship same day to NA guys. If any NA guys want an NB pipe now (if you are doing a custom exhaust anyway, for instance), just shoot me an email and I can send one on Monday.

Any updates on the intercooler part of the "kit"?

I'm on my 3rd week of driving with the new manifold and turbo. Things are going well, no problems to report from either. I found a few head/manifold nuts loose on their studs over the weekend, probably a result of my cross-country commute. After re-torquing them I haven't seen them loose since. Stage8 hardware is holding true and the studs haven't moved either. Replaced that breather filter with a parts store cheapie (non-k&n) and haven't had the melty issues since as well. Had to flush the brake fluid though, d4 brake fluid is already getting toasted without a shield

Intercooler and piping is next, yes. I have rough protos built but still need to polish them up and get first articles from my supplier. Concurrent development will happen on a heat shielding solution for the turbine/downpipe to keep the heater hoses, brake lines, etc. all happy and alive.

Where are you guys sending emails to? Andrew usually replies within a few hours - usually minutes.
info@trackspeedengineering.com |
Sometimes I can get back to quick emails immediately, and sometimes I'm up to my elbows in grease (like this week). I try to tag anything that needs a reply and run through that list every 48hrs. If you don't see a reply in that timeframe, just bug me again.

Just unboxed the down pipe and oil/water lines kit. Wow is all I can say. The welds on the vband are so nice as well as on the flex joint and cat flange. Super nice down pipe and definitely worth the wait.
Great job on everything so far Andrew! This fucking rocks so hard. Can't remember my sign on for flickr. Sorry. Also picture quality sucks. I took these on my way out the door for work in my garage at 6am. I ask for mercy. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d8aab3fa5a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c05bb1ad23.jpg |

My "extender" arrived earlier last week. Not sure exactly how/where I'm supposed to apply suction, and it seems to have too many orifices. Maybe to accommodate "challenged" bros? Haz shop vac, will figure it out. |

NB bros, there was a slight hiccup in the production process, so the fit between the upper and lower is very loose (too loose). We will be shipping a thin sleeve to all the NB owners later this week to sort out that fitment issue. |
It the upper half of the down pipe the same for NA and NB? Any reason a NA down pipe wouldn't fit on a NB? I know it won't fit up to any off the shelf exhausts, but that really isn't an issue for me.
|
I got my tracking number. So excited.

A couple of other notes. The NA guys who are still waiting for water lines will get their parts next week - I am waiting on a few bits to complete those oil/water line kits. In addition, there was a water fitting change for MY99 that means the 3/8" hoses I included with the water lines won't fit with NA motors, so if you're using an NA front water neck or NA water pump inlet, you need a 5/16" silicone hose instead of the 3/8" hose I gave you. If that's you, let me know and I'll drop a couple pieces of 5/16" in the mail when it arrives. |

NA DP should fit fine on an NB if you can build a custom exhaust for it. Uppers are the same.

I didn't see any 'real life' pictures of the water / oil line kit so I figured I'd post some. The little anodized supports for the hard lines are super neat.

Looks like seriously nice stuff.

Those hose clamp separators are cool. You can get em on ebay for pretty cheap (for other projects). I got a big pack of red ones for random hose separation.

Don't forget the Blue Loctite though!

Rear bung, yes. Front bung is futureproofing.
|
I always like the lower rear bung due to making it easier to route O2 wires up into the cabin through the shifter turret hole.
|
Also is there any reason to not weld the 2 pieces together instead of using the clamp? I am assuming the 2 piece design was more for shipping then a fitment issue?

I really need to carve out a couple of days and finish writing the instructions, but one item of note for 5-speed guys. There's a small ear of metal on the 5-speed that interferes with the downpipe. You'll need to stick a reciprocating saw up there and chop that off before installing. 6-speed guys can ignore this. Pics below: Location of the ear. It serves no purpose: Attachment 232677 Size of the ear after removal: Attachment 232678 |

I'm just loving that part of the instructions for this amazing kit for installation with a 5-speed car will require use of a sawzall.

:fael:

TSE will now also be renting out FaeFlora to do the dirty work for you.
|
He can also cut the transmission for you too. But the dirty work is where the real money is.

This. My noob ass is going to seriously need some type of instructions. Including some things that might be considered common sense. I am hoping to not bug the shit out of you with endless emails starting with "How do you..." |
I am running a 5 speed for a while. But 5th is now kicking out so 6 will be in there soon as i get it in.
Are you guys aware Bosch white papers say the 4.2 and 4.9 both are to run a temp of 900 C. Yes C. Max temp is 1000 C. So unless you are running more than 1700 f. Egt you are below operating temp according to Bosch. I run as close as possible. We run the airplane at 5 1/4 from the head. 7 inches Max from the valve. They last longer than in the car. |

I honestly think it has more to do with the number of heat cycles we put these things through than anything else.
Sav, any benefit to "upgrading" from the 4.2 to the 4.9? I believe my Innovate will let me do that if I change the cable and update the firmware, I just don't know if its worth it. |
Not sure, the switch happened just before I put the MS3 in Acamas so I ended up with all 4.9 cars by happenstance.

I believe the connector is different, but don't quote me on that.

Bosch LSU 4.2 and LSU 4.9 Multi-Sensor Support And for $30 you can get just the cable and source your own sensor. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16364&cat=250&page=1 For you prime guys https://www.amazon.com/Innovate-Moto.../dp/B013UG0MJE https://www.amazon.com/Oxygen-Sensor...dp/B01FS949SG/ Gordon, buy all that and install it before MRLS. *Disclaimer, I have not ordered any of this, nor know if it works. |

Suit yourself. I've already killed one LSU4.9 sensor running it in the rear position in a track car. My recommendation is to run the rear position.
I am not on the track in my miata so can't say otherwise. But can say 100% in an aircraft they last longer than a miata with it lower in the pipe. Note i run them with extended mounts so not saturated in the exhaust stream. Tip is flush. Was initially very worried about the aircraft mounting as we had no other location. Everyone says they won't last. Turns out they do very well. Even with lead contamination. So looked up bosch specs. Does sell more sensors i guess. My 4.9 has lasted longer than any i have had. It is running in stock header position. Being further downstream. Sensor response is better up close too. |
Aircraft run lower EGTs as do NA cars. I've never had sensors survive in the upper pipe, and I've killed them in track cars in the lower position too. I wouldn't put it in the upper position.
