What's wrong with superchargers?
#185
Love this thread, and all the mt.net members backing themselves into saying that having a car that's a dog below 3000 rpm is "fun". Now we're on page 10 and getting arguments based on the sound of a supercharger.
Get over it. That Whipple charged car I had was stupid fun. Lots of torque down low, big fat torque curve in the middle, and oh, lots of power up top too. It was more expensive (new) and more complicated than a reasonable turbo setup that would have done nearly the same thing (but not quite) but would have been more versatile.
And yes, daily driving is not an HPDE. It's fun when there's an irritating car pacing you to just drop the hammer and instantly put car lengths on them. It's fun to have kick in the pants power without having to scream around at 5000+ rpm all day.
Having a supercharged car for a while convinced me that there's something to it, but that whatever that thing is isn't a big enough factor for me. My next Miata will be a turbo build. It's a more flexible, superior setup. But this thread is the dumbest. 10 pages of nonsense arguments and then when someone with a kickass supercharger setup makes a point, responding with "butthurt?"...really?

Boo-efffin-hoo, people don't like superchargers on miataTURBO.net, what a surprise. Obviously there's some point to them or they woulnd't exist on this planet. Obviously everyone here think the pro's are heavily overpowered by teh cons, or again this woulnd't be miataTURBO.net
This thread has drifted off topic and was just a troll-fest since page1, you pointing out the obvious makes your post just as dumb and pointless as the ones you're criticizing, congrats.
We're all passing time here. The only ones taking this seriously seem to be the supercharged guys

Its all good tho, I aint even mad
I'll even go as far as say this:
If I could get a twin screw....That didn't cost an arm and leg....and didn't require a buttload of custom fab.....and would be silent........and the car would remain quiet........and make a ton of torque down low
i'd actually run said thupercharger on my car
