Aidan's loose oily bunghole actually runs a track lap

but he's already running basically a sr 2554 setup
....and here's what I challenge you to aidan: build this setup you're dreaming of, then add up all the cost. then compare to a "proven" setup and see how much cheaper it was. then realize why our "community" is so "cookie cutter"

Besides he has a 1.6, you already know he's not looking for a baller *** setup. If he really wanted "the best" he'd 1.8 swap it first. Sounds to me like he just wants a reliable, good setup that won't break the bank and work with his current engine setup. So used garrett, some other used quality turbo, he mentioned ebay so that might be an option. Though I'd rather buy a used Garrett myself if I could find one for the same money. That probably won't be easy though.

Shoulda made that clear. This manifold is getting welded and tracked for at least another year or more. I'm going to beat the **** out of it. Hopefully the 1.8 lives.
I'm going to be building my own manifold/downpipe anyways. So the only cost difference is the turbo. $2-300 holset? Or $1600 EFR.
1200 is like 6 track days. Or the commanche I've been wanting. Or another Miata for Hailey. Not going to go EFR.
So perfect for me right?

Not to sound crazy, but the GT3271 was like 750 new back in the day. New, and that's big enough to make 350whp. Bet you could find a used one for less.

I'm not saying EFR or bust.
But when guys are all like "omgz bro, 2000 dollar performance for 200, all the guiz spending money on nice parts are chumps" I usually laugh.
You can go used garrett. Or used holset. or whatever. The only problem with going the path less traveled is the much higher probability of failure vs much higher probability of success.
If you fail, you just wasted all that money. ALLOFIT

Not saying my 200 will be 2000. But the current discussion is how to get my 200 as close to 2000 as possible.
As of now I think holset will be my best bet.
And I know you think its silly. But I guarantee I can sell a holset manifold+downpipe on the classifieds real quick.

Ok back on real track.
I kinda want a 3rd car. Miata is getting to tracky to want to drive all the time.
And this idea has been kicking around in my head for a while. And after seeing @gesso's I want one even more.
Jeep comanche. I have found them in california for dirt cheap because they don't pass smog. Buy, drive to oregon, no smog here. Profit.
4.slow I6 is reliable, and the same one that is in the GF's jeep. Need to learn that platform anyways, kills 2 birds with one stone.
Only issue is they are hard to find in red.
Budget is 2k

And used turbo miata parts sell easy. I sold my used FM manifold setup for an external gate for 300 here. Someone got a sweet manifold and it sold fairly quick.

Well, the Comanche will be cool but honestly I think it's kinda too similar to your Ford. And there's no way you'd be able to keep it stockish, so you'd end up making it horrible to drive too.
CRX -- too similar to Miata (in the sense of two seats tiny car) and they're not super plentiful.
I don't like the Civic option.
Give me more options to recommend from.
How 'bout a saab?
Merkur XR4Ti?

Yeah it was kind of an impulse buy on the C63. But I love it now and plan to keep it forever. It's funny how fast a stock 4 door luxury boat with a NA V8 actually is. At the last test and tune I won 18 out of 19 races. Lost to a V8 swapped S10 on slicks. By .5 seconds!
The C63 made me change my goals on the miata.
CRX
But there are several german cars too if you like wrenching all the time to keep them running.

I still like the Comanche. If I can find one in red I'm buying it.
Now I need gessos help. Probably @concealer404 too. I know I want the 4.0. Are there major differences between years? Axles? Transmissions?

1985 Merkur XR4ti
offer $2k?
hee hee hatchback practicality (i've slept in the back of one of these) and nice highway comfort. Good handling, turbo, manual, and red. A few super cheap bolt ons and they're pretty fun too...
Edit: Holy crap it's perfect.
