Mine looks like the pic, and didn't say not to run it with water. Looks to all be made of stainless steel, and if it can handle oil/gas, I don't see why it couldn't handle water. I run water/antifreeze anyway so not going to rust anything anyways.

 

Some of them say no water. I think that that is their way of saying it isn't food safe. I would run them anyways. Though chinese stainless does rust sometimes.

Brake bleeding question.

Rears bleed fine. Fronts are being weird. You can pump the pedal real fast and occasionally it will "catch" and hold pressure. The rest of the times it just mushes to the floor. No amount of bleeding is changing it.

Ideas?

 

You bled the right ports in the proper order? You don't pump the brakes while you are bleeding them right, just smooth easy pressure?

 

Tried both. The rear brakes are perfect. Fronts are weird.

We can get them to hold pressure if you pump them really fast. But its not like building pressure, it just randomly will hold pressure.

 

You've gotta bleed the inside and outside of these calipers, you got that right?

Only other thing that I can think of is a intermittent leak. What's the 3AN end of those brake lines look like, not wet?

 

These are toyota mr2 calipers.

 

Master cylinder dead? Just pushing fluid around without going into the lines.

 

maybe. But the master looks almost new.

And sometimes it holds fine.

How do you plug an inverted flare?

 

Take an old brakeline, cut it short and clamp the end with full force like a real man. Then fold it over and do it again.

 

Pull and change master cylinder, bench bleed the new one, install, bleed all 4 corners again. Done. Don't 1/2 way fix a brake system. If it was a caliper you'd be loosing fluid.

bad master.

Use inverted flare plugs to plug inverted flares. I know it sounds crazy.

 

Bad seal in the master. Probably old and dried out, maybe a chipped edge.

Rebuild kits are cheap.

 

Turns out a 94 4runner master is a bolt in solution. And is half the price of an MR2 one. Ordered.

Along with some SS brake lines.

$8 under budget still.
